H4 Friendly Fire

In one of the new multiplayer videos found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgEl8FXGhrg&src_vid=KSNBNvEm9jc&annotation_id=annotation_93244&feature=iv

you can see at around 1:18 that the blue spartan shoots his teammate in the back with a rocket and nothing happens. This confirms that, for now at least, there is no friendly fire in infinity slayer (and possibly other gametypes as well).

I am worried about this because I always liked how Halo’s friendly fire added another layer of skill to the gameplay. /:

What do you guys think?

Prevents team killing for weapons. Much needed change actually, as it is a recurring problem in Reach.

Well it’ll stop people betraying for weapons or vehicle.

Now people have to earn their own sniper instead of killing partners for one.
“Oh, nice ordinance drop partner, herp derp let me have”

Now I can get my Sniper Rifle without getting betrayed.

… while simultaneously encouraging grenade spamming, tank & wraith spamming, and removing the entire dynamic of “think before you shoot”. I’m hoping it was just included in that custom match so the reporters don’t get discouraged while sucking.

it may have been turned off for the demo as if you’ve waited 45 mins in line you dont want to be kicked for betrayal do you, it may be easer to turn off betrayal than booting off, just a theory though.

I agree with you, Kaged.

Purposely betraying for weapons is an unfortunate consequence of friendly fire, but I still think it is an essential part of the “Halo” feel. Because of this feature, players must use a little more strategy in choosing how to place grenades, shots, etc. so that they avoid hitting their own players while aiming for opponents.

Besides, betraying for weapons doesn’t happen THAT often, when I play at least, and that’s just why we need a good booting system. That, however, is for another thread

This looks really good actually. If they implemented this in Campaignm that would be better. Many a time I have had a Rocket Launcher and someone got in front of me and got blasted.

If there is no friendly fire I will be SEVERELY disappointed. While I agree the idiots who betray for weapons and vehicles can ruin the experience now and then, overall friendly fire is part of what makes Halo a more competitive game than others. It requires you to think before firing rockets blindly into crowds or just launching grenades everywhere. It prevents players from being in tanks/wraiths/etc… and just shooting into crowds.

Imagine if you’re playing CTF, are defending in a wraith, and a team member is having a warthog battle with another warthog from the opposing team. That is a classic scenario in Halo and the driver of the wraith has to time/aim his shot accordingly to help his teammate.

Without friendly fire I can just shoot right at both of them and not worry about killing my team? Hell no. That removes a HUGE portion of the skill needed for competitive big team battle.

Wow I like how everything they either take out or put in somehow takes away skill. Seriously man?

While I’m all for Friendly fire off as it has its advantages, imagine the exploits?

Teammates getting pushed with wraith boosting and such, it could be the super jump all over again.

I’m assuming its just for the E3 demo…unless confirmed otherwise.

Halo 4’s infinity slayer has friendly fire turned off because of the extensive amount of power weapons used in the gametype, standard slayer and other objective based gametypes will have friendly fire enabled with a 3 betrayal boot system.

While I’m fine with that, how do you know that for sure? Link?

Yay, noobify Halo some more. This opens the door for massive abuse, anyone who can’t see that is limited.

this - would like 343 to clarify that friendly fire is, in fact, still a part of halo…

Personally, I’m glad for the change.

Namely due to the friendly fire system contributing to my death more from -Yoinks!- betraying me for weapons than my team mates actually making mistakes.

I agree, I could see this being a bad thing as well as a good thing though.

Friendly fire didn’t add any skill to the game and I’m tired of reading that same argument in favor of it. All it did was allow teammates to betray you for weapons, because they don’t know how to be careful with grenades, or because they like betraying you. Most of the time betrayals are on purpose and the system wont get the person who betrayed booted. How is this in any way a good thing to keep?

Hes saying it affects the game because now you dont have to aim your destructive weapons (tanks/rockets/wraiths/grenades etc) when you see a teammate in battle, now you can just throw them in and you know that there wont be any consequences
