H4 DLC, don't do the same as Reach

As a lover of all Halo games, I would like to mention this (and I’m sure it’s been mentioned before). The Halo 4 DLC seems to be coming at a fairly brisk pace, which worries me greatly for many reasons, but the one I’m going to focus on here, is lack of playability. People have asked since the dawn of time (Or, since 343 took over Reach), that a central DLC playlist be added. They’ve ignored, and refused, to change playlists. Fervently sticking to their original position, despite great grief from the community.

Please, please, PLEASE don’t let the same happen to 4.
I would love to see changes, such as possibly a weekend playlist that rotates DLC alongside the current DLC, or a central playlist with all of the DLC itself.

Just please, don’t just ignore your gamers.

We bought your DLC, you could at least make it easier for us to play it.

You make it sound dramatic. Isn’t this for the matchmaking forum as well?

Quite possibly, though I posted here as it’s more of a plea for the future, than a discussion of the current H4 playlists. Either way, if it’s better suited for that section of the forums I apologize.

Agreed, I too want a DLC playlist. I was so sad when it got taken away in Reach.

No, not a central DLC playlist.

The vast majority of players turn on the game, ignore all the ‘extras’ and just load up either Team Slayer, SWAT, or Big Team. And even if they buy the DLC, they won’t bother playing a dedicated DLC playlist for longer than an hour or two.

The best thing 343i could do is go the route Halo 3 did. Limiting the playlist selection for the players that aren’t continuing to support them.

When a player buys Halo 4, he buys it to play Halo. When a player chooses not to buy the map packs, he is choosing NOT to play the settings that support the maps.

Halo’s most identifiable playlists are 4 v 4 Slayer, 4 v 4 Objective, and FFA Slayer/Objective. And if they aren’t willing to support making Halo 5 a better game, that’s all they need.

Besides, it’s not like they won’t have access to the ‘niche’ playlists that don’t have any DLC requirement at all, like Grifball, which wouldn’t support any maps other than forged stadiums anyway, or Community Map playlists.

The most important playlist for a DLC requirement right now is definitely Big Team though.

Halo 2 and Halo 3, there was not a problem with the DLC, everyone had it.

In REACH and Halo 4, the DLC seems to be a rarity.

I really wish they could make them free after 6 months or mega cheap so the community could all benefit.

These are great maps, and we miss out on playing them in Match-Making, because 1 person does not have it.

I much prefer the Initial Game Purchase price was $10 more if it included all future DLC as free.

This I think would be much better.

MS loves $, so how many copies of Halo 4 sold X $10.

That is alot of extra cash.

If this was done for Halo 5, could keep the population higher for longer.

> When a player buys Halo 4, he buys it to play Halo. When a player chooses not to buy the map packs, he is choosing NOT to play the settings that support the maps.

I must disagree. Just because I don’t have the map packs doesn’t mean I don’t want to play BTB, CTF, Dominion, Extraction, ect. I continue to support the game, but just because I don’t put forth another $10 doesn’t mean I want less than what I started with when I first got the game.

I concur, for that matter, trying to get the achievements on certain maps. TBH, the hardest achievement i had ever got was “All Alone”. I spent the last 3 weeks on it, until i got it b4 Halo 4 was released.

However, Spartans, if you want the DLC achievements, you have to make sure that everyone you’re playing with has all DLC’s or else the maps wont pop up. Thats what happened in Reach when players didn’t buy Anniversary and had a hard time finding the maps.

I do see DLC maps in the normal playlists, but they are extremely rare for me. What if they add the maps (in their own playlist and into the playlists,) but along side with a update in the match search. With the update, they should pair players who have the same DLC as you do (I.e. I only have the Crimson map pack, so it gives a higher chances of finding players who have that DLC as well.

This can help both players who have the DLC and still wish to play the normal playlists.

In defense of the DLC, just because there’s people who don’t play it, or didn’t buy it, doesn’t mean that the people who DID shouldn’t be accommodated.

It wouldn’t take much, even if it wasn’t played my a vast majority, enough to keep the maps actually available for those who want to get their moneys worth.

Once Castle runs its course I’d like to see a 5v5 DLC playlist that uses the Majestic map pack, Harvest, Wreckage (CTF), Daybreak, and Perdition. I’d also like to see a 8v8 DLC playlist that uses the Crimson and Castle map packs.

once the Castle DLC playlist is down, they should replace it with an all DLC playlist, i hope they do, even if i rarely would play it i would like the option to play on the dlc maps i played for, than pray i find one online by chance.

they have added alot of playlists recently, how would one extra dedicated to their own new dlc maps hurt anyone?

I like the idea for for two playlist.

  • squid DLC = 5v5 with Slayer, CTF and KotH
  • big team DLC = 8v8 with slayer, CTF and Dominion
