H4 Bolt Shot/Light Rifle/Binary Rifle Variants?

So obviously a lot of the Forerunner weapons changed significantly between Halo 4 and Halo 5, particularly with the Bolt Shot, Light Rifle and Binary Rifle, which operate completely differently from their original appearance. Personally I like the changes for the most part, but with the announcement that we are going to get a H2 Variant of the Battle Rifle this month, it seems possible that we might get some Variants of these weapons based on their prior incarnation as well.

For players who maybe didn’t do much Halo 4, the differences and my ideas for how to do a Halo 5 Variant are as follows:
H4 Bolt Shot fired a single weak shot that didn’t home that was bad at dropping shields but good at headshotting unshielded opponents. It could also be charged for a shotgun style blast that was pretty much an instant kill at close range. A H5 Variant could incorporate some of this by using the charged shot, reducing the number of projectiles in the regular shot to one but keeping the H5 homing.

H4 Light Rifle fired a three round burst not unlike the Battle Rifle when not scoped but had basically the same function as the current version when zoomed. In my opinion it was a better marksperson’s weapon in H4. In a lot of ways the changes are cosmetic, but a Warzone Variant could still pay homage to the H4 version by making it more of a long range weapon weapon with a better scope and three round bursts for mid range engagement plus an extended reload time.

H4 Binary Rifle was very different in that it fired a single powerful projectile instead of a beam as it does now. It could generally one shot Spartans even without a headshot. It was basically a souped up Sniper Rifle that was also particularly effective against smaller vehicles. A H5 variant could basically faithfully adapt that, with a version that fires a single fast and powerful projectile that one shots on most of a Spartan’s body (eliminating the need for a headshot) plus buffed damage against vehicles. Because it would be so powerful it would probably need to be a Mythic high level unlock.
Would people be interested in H4 Variants of Promethean weapons?

The LR is actually very similar to the H4 predecessor. Zoom shots still only take 3 for a kill and the rate of fire are same. Unscoped LR shots are also the same, it was never a burst weapon.

I don’t mind the change they did to the bolt shot. We already have the shotgun and the scattershot. The addition of a ‘‘new kind of shotgun’’ is useless to me. Light rifle is good as it is in Halo 5 no need to change that for me.

I would only go back to what the Binary Rifle was in Halo 4. I did prefer it that way it looks weak in Halo 5. I didn’t use it much, but I remember playing with it a lot in Halo 4 and it was way better imo

I thought they sucked in Halo 4, especially the boltshot. But hey, more options are good.

If they readded the one shot binary I would request it has a reduced ammo pool so you dont get 8 easy kills.

I’d be down for that as long and the Halo 4 Incineration cannon comes back as well. 1 shot = death to anything!

Did you even play Halo 4? The Light Rifle was NEVER a 3 round burst weapon in that game. I swear, people and their idiocy. Might want to research your subject material before making ridiculous posts.

Sorry, I was unclear and a line somehow got edited out. I agree that the changes are mostly cosmetic. The Light Rifle in H4, as I understand it, fires a 3 round shot, but so quickly that it appears to be a single beam. The Light Rifle in H5 only fires one round at a time. A Variant could greatly buff the mid range performance with a very fast 3 round burst like the H4 version that does more damage but drains ammo quickly. The function would be for a player using the LR as a long range weapon, but to have the ability to quickly fend off an attacker who was getting close

Wrong
When unscoped, it is a 3 shot burst.
Side note to everyone:
Leave the pocket shotgun in its grave.

Actually, you are incorrect. The canon is that the Light Rifle fired three rounds at once, hence a burst. It just happened so fast that it appeared to be one continuous beam. As you will remember from your time on Halo 4, each shot consumed 3 rounds on your HUD. That has changed in Halo 5. A Variant that paid homage to the Halo 4 version could bring back the 3 round burst
Sources:
It is a scoped, mid-range to long-range weapon that normally fires a three-shot burst or a powerful concentrated semi-automatic shot which consumes three units when zoomed in. The LightRifle fires three-“round” bursts from the hip.

Don’t be a jerk. You are wrong. Un-scoped Light Rifle is a three round burst in Halo 4.
Maybe you should do some research before you call someone an idiot. Since you just successfully turned that around on yourself.

Please, keep that garbage Boltshot from Halo 4 far away from Halo 5. That thing broke the game.

Yeah I also like the Bolt Shot better now and agree that the Light Rifle changes have been pretty minor. I’m more talking about potential Legendary Reqs that pay homage to the H4 version with some buffs/nerfs/changes

Even as a Rare/Legendary/Mythic Req in Warzone?

That would be a good idea probably

As a REQ Varient… sure. It wouldn’t be much different from those OP models we have now I guess. Plus we already have the ability to spawn with a shotgun in WZ, so a weaker pocket shotty wouldn’t be too bad.

Yeah that was sort of what I was thinking. Req Variants that pay homage to the H4 version of the weapons with versions that function more like the original incarnations. Sort of like the H2 BR we are about to get.

I wouldn’t mind the boltshot coming back but us an ultra rare variant, but the lightrifle seems fine. The binary rifle , i think the h4 one should replace the current legendary one because i think the split beam binary rifle is worthless and a lot worse than its ultra rare counterpart.

It was something of a game-breaker only because you could make it a loadout weapon so everyone had one for the entirety of every match.

As a req i don’t think it brings anything to H5.

If you EVER mention bringing that Halo 4 Boltshot into Halo 5 again, I will burn the entire solar system down! Even that new planet they may have just discovered.
