H4 Black Beta Impressions, Damage Boost Vid

Hi everyone,

here are the videos (WARNING: loud music and many excited comments from myself and my mate)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtz0J3qUJ_0&feature=g-upl - Carbine and PP usage, skip to 7:53 for railgun kills

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0SMk151GGA&feature=g-upl - Lots of DMR and BR usage

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcjpAo1mUls&feature=g-upl - Good thruster pack usage toward the end, some sword kills about halfway through, skip to about 2:43 for damage boost kill, skip to 8:15 to see speed boost affecting thruster pack

So my mate and I recently went to the IGN Halo 4 Black Beta and got to play a few Slayer games on Exile and Haven. We filmed a few FFA matches whose links are above. I’m not trying to promote my videos or show off skill at all, I’m just giving people more stuff to watch!

Halo 4 Impressions:

  • Haven seems like a well-structured map that makes it easy to find combat after spawn

  • Carbine is easy to use due to no bloom/recoil, I like it a lot.

  • Railgun makes you feel pretty badass, it makes great sound and is satisfying to pull off a kill

  • Damage boost is pretty significant, somewhere between a 50% to 100% boost of damage (see third video, not sure if this was 7sk or 8sk carbine so I can’t determine how much extra damage you get)

  • Speed boost appears to affect AA’s in the second video I swear he goes twice as far with the thruster pack at 8:15

  • The scorpion is scary as hell, the sound of that explosion is ridiculous, I love it!

  • Jump height and grenade arc feel great, it’s a lot easier to avoid nades by jumping (Reach made it much harder to do that)

  • Dexterity felt great to use, fast reloads are flashy looking and it helps out on guns like the SAW that have VERY long reload times

  • Thruster pack doesn’t gain as much distance as I thought it would but I think it could still be useful to retreat around corners, etc

  • Camo affects radar differently, their radar dot disappears slowly as they go camo, and the radar-jamming dots are all white instead of red. I don’t know if other enemies dots become red or if its just the jamming ones that turn white. I think the actual camo itself is harder to spot too.

  • Sticky detonator seems to have a huge blast radius, you can kind of see that during the last kill of the second video, although that guy may have just chosen to walk into the grenade. We did see this other guy get several kills with it though so it does seem pretty powerful.

Hope you guys enjoyed it! Can’t wait for November 6th!

Thanks for the videos.

Damage boost makes a 5sk BR turn into a 3sk. It may actually even be OP…

Nice gameplay and i love the fact camo now makes u disappear on radar for a good duration x)

> Thanks for the videos.

No worries! Just trying to help people pass the time

> Damage boost makes a 5sk BR turn into a 3sk. It may actually even be OP…

I think it’s pretty OP yeah. If you activate DB and then proceed to do several one on one encounters, chances are that you’ll win every one, unless the opponent’s weapon is better than yours. Stuff like overshield depletes after each battle while DB remains constant until it ends, meaning you win more fights with it. Dunno how long it lasts for though. You could probably say the same about speed boost?

Yeah that’s something I forgot to say! Camo affects radar differently, their radar dot disappears slowly as they go camo, and the dots are all white instead of red. I think the actual camo itself is harder to spot too.

I think both Damage and Speed Boost last from 30-45 seconds, maybe a minute but I doubt it.

Carbine looks VERY interesting. Thanks for uploads dude.

EDIT: Am I the only one experiencing slow-down at certain parts? It goes back and forth between smooth and choppy, but if I watch other YouTube stuff it’s fine. Not trying to be a jerk or anything, just genuinely curious if it’s all on my side or not. Still, thanks for the upload man! It’s good to see some real Carbine footage as opposed to the typical BR/DMR stuff.

By the way, do you think the Carb could be a fairly common starting weapon for people, or will most folks gravitate towards the human weapons out of familiarity?

That sounds about right. I think the powerups all work best in different situations, but I can see damage boost being the best one overall, the most versatile.

Nice. I played Halo 4 at san diego. It was epic!

I think covenant weapons are gonna be the least used, with all the br/dmr fans and the new forerunner stuff (with people usually wanting to use the new stuff) the ol purple and squidy stuff seems to be going out of style.

Hmm I’m not noticing anything like that, but my apologies anyway! It’s the first time I’ve uploaded anything to youtube.

I reckon the BR will definitely be most common for the first few weeks, but people will differentiate after that. I do think that the human weapons will be more popular, but the carbine’s appealing because it doesn’t have bloom or kickback.

I think you’re right, covenant weapons have never been as popular and forerunner weapons won’t help  it’s a real shame, covenant weapons are my favourite!
