Ok, so I’m returning to H3’s campaign (on Legendary) and plugging along fine. Well, I’m facing the scarab on The Storm, and for the life of me, I can’t board it. Literally 6 times in a row I went to jump on it from the cranes, hit an invisible wall, and fell to my death. I tried a few grav lifts both from the crane and center buildings, only to die upon touching the scarab. After unsuccessfully trying various options for what seemed like an eternity, I called it a night.
Back in the original H3, I didn’t have a single issue with the scarab encounter…and I have no idea what’s going on now. Has anyone run into this issue on the MCC or was it just a wildly unlucky night for me?
Watched the 1st vid during my boarding fail-fest last night, but that seems to be a consistent approach. Maybe I just hit some bad luck…will give that another go tonight.
I usually park the hornet at the frontal end of the scarab after immobilizing it and clearing out most of the covenant. Walk to the posterior side, nade the core and fly away before getting caught in the blast.
Edit: Apologies you said the storm… I was thinking about the covenant. I actually struggled to do this too.
Finally (finally!!!) got it last night. I still dunno what the issue was…but it took many more tries as I was regularly hitting an invisible wall or dying after immediately touching the scarab. I assume the latter was more weird in-game-physics-based, since there were a few times that I was spontaneously flung across the map at an outrageous speed.
Anyway, one of the grav lift attempts from the center building finally paid off. whew
Seems like you’ve already gotten your answer, but…
Shoot it until it dies. More specifically, it’s legs. If you shoot it enough until the lights on the back of the legs go red. This will force the Scarab to “crouch”, which means you have a chance to climb in from behind.
From there, murder everything, and then shoot it’s big glowing weakspot until it dies.
If you’re having trouble blowing up the legs, you can pilfer a rocket launcher from the marines on the Mongeese that have undoubtedly died by now. Or use a rocket pod.
Have fun with the two other Scarab fights down the line

Amazingly, I went through 2 rocket pods and SPNKr rockets targeting the legs…and the damn thing never went down. I ultimately gave up and just went for the boarding action. With the non-crouching scarab and all the invisible walls I hit, maybe my game is just screwy. I haven’t run into other issues during campaign, so maybe the Halo gods just decided to mess with me at this part. lol
i think it was just random, i always board the scarab easily no matter the difficulty, most of the time i just use the missile pod to weaken it and then board it
