H2

Well, in my opinion Halo 2 is the best Halo Game.
Now some Halo 3 fans might not agree but it did introduce many new things like the BR and Carbine which people love still love to this day. And, it also brought more depth to the fan favorite species like the Flood and Covenant Troops. The only argument I can think of is that H2 left of on a cliff-hanger ending and the servers were shut down. Well I hope you can agree with my opinion and 343 BRING BACK THE FLOOD…PLEASE; Also give this a few likes- Rest:heart::100:

Halo 2 is often remembered fondly by those of us that were there for its prime but people forget its flaws. I could write a really long post about the pro’s and cons but I will try to short list:

Pro’s:

  • Innovated and kickstarted the online gaming scene on consoles. Competitive Matchmaking was used as a basis in most future Xbox games (Truskill). Used P2P to save time.
  • Introduced better physics to the series. Vehicles no longer do 9999 damage to you if they tap you.
  • Hitscan for most weapons and a decent amount of aim assist makes the game fun to play
  • Clan support
  • Helped kickstart the competitive gaming scene for consoles (MLG)
  • Helped continue the success of Machinima
  • Gave depth and characterisation to the Covenant
  • Introduced DLC to extend the games life
  • Increased customisation options for gametypes and Spartans
  • Competitive ranking system that gave players something to ‘grind for’. Ranking up was like a form of ‘positive reinforcement’, encouraging players to keep playing and get better.

Con’s:

  • Duel Wielding, whilst cool and fun at the time, lost out to the golden triangle of Halo (Grenades, firing, melee). It’s inclusion did not further the formula in any way
  • Weapon balance was way off. If the Battle Rifle is arguably the best weapon in the game due to versatility to the point it makes alot of other weapons redundant then you have a problem.
  • Network manipulation in MM that lead to people getting booted out of a game if the ‘host’ was losing.
  • Modding became a huge problem in the later years of Halo 2’s prime. Some modders made cool custom games but there was a significant amount that used mods to cheat.
  • Cliffhanger ending.
  • The switch to Arbiter and not playing as the Chief. Whilst some like it now, I clearly remember the outcry as I did with MGS2’s Raiden.
  • Flood’s introduction in ‘The Oracle’ was utterly pointless and completely diminished the impact of their return. They should have built them up slightly in ‘Sacred Icon’ for new players.
  • Lack of Earth levels. Most marketing material, including the E3 2003 demo pointed to defending Earth being a huge factor. We were there for 2 levels (3 if you include Cairo).
  • Scale and scope downscaled from the E3 material (admittedly the end result with Metropolis was still good).
  • Boss fights were pointless and felt completely out of place.

Just some off of the top of my head. Halo 2 is still one of my favourite games of all time but it is flawed and not perfect like everyone makes it out to be. There were a lot of problems people tend to overlook these days yet the end package was still a very good game.

Pretty spot on. I won’t go into detail seeing as it’s basically all above. Halo 2 was amazing. I feel bad for those who missed out on those glory days

Absolutely! Halo 2 was amazing!! The BR was great in the game and finally being able to get your hands on the Energy Sword. Also the level “Outskirts” was awesome. The city looked great and it was cool to see new scenery. I really love going back and just playing through certain mission and of course enjoying the nostalgia.

I agree in the cliffhanger, but generally because Halo 2 was unfinished and rushed. You are right, it innovated in lots of things including the flood and the covenant, but those 2 had also mistakes. They could speak english, the flood were fewer but stronger as opposed to CE, the covenant had no escalation (since the fist mission you see all the elites, even the zealots and Spec Ops commanders, in a suicide mission???) and seemed much more human. However, the things it made right were yet so much, that made it not only a reccord breaking shooter with no rival at it’s time, THE game for original xbox and one of the 3 bestnin the whole franchise.

Halo 2 is a broken masterpiece.

Halo 2 had the perfect multiplayer from both a competitive as well as social standpoint, the most in-depth story ever told in a Halo game, and some of the best control/gunplay in the franchise.

No console FPS can compare to Halo 2.

A broken masterpiece, that’s good. Though I wouldn’t say broken because that word is better suited for MCC but that’s a discussion for another time

i love playing halo 2 a lot
