H2:A Weapon & Vehicle Sounds?

Which is the best choice for weapon & vehicle sounds in Halo 2:Anniversary, for both Campaign and H2:A Multiplayer? The classic sound effects that Bungie used from the original Halo 2 all the way to Halo:Reach, or the lousy new sounds they tossed in for Halo 4?

Personally, I though all the weapons in Halo:Reach sounded great; they were basically the same sound effects that Bungie has been using since Halo 2, with a few subtle tweaks along the way to make them sound even more badass.

In Halo 4, they completely changed the sounds for every weapon and vehicle in the game, and the result was atrocious. 343i said they were modeled after real guns, and yet the much-desired Battle Rifle sounded like a cheap airsoft gun… the Warthog sounds like an RC car, and Gauss cannon makes this stupid little “pew” sound when fired, as opposed the sharp “crack” from previous games, which it made it far more intimidating and much more fun to shoot.

The Assault Rifle isn’t as bad as the others, but it still makes a noise like a busted popcorn machine where Halo:Reach’s AR had the more appropriate sound of a powerful, rugged machine gun.

The Magnum isn’t much better than the BR; it too sounds like a BB gun. What happened to the nice “BANG!” it had in past Halos? Why not use the sound effects for the Halo:CEA Magnum, it was easily the best sounding out of all the Halo games!

The Storm Rifle is easily one of the worst; it makes this stupid little pattering noise when fired that I absolutely cannot stand. The Ghost and Banshee have the same problem with their Plasma Cannons; why change these? They sounded perfect in Halo:Reach, why change them?

Always loved the SFX for the Shotgun… the Halo 4 Shotgun, not so much. I miss the classic sounds of the old Shotgun, which were much more intimidating; the sharp “BANG!” of Halo:Reach’s Shotgun over the oddly muffled “Boom!” of Halo 4’s Shotgun, it’s as simple as that.

Then, you have the heavy weapons. The Rocket Launcher sounds like a toilet flushing when fired… and the Spartan Laser? Do I need to elaborate?

My point? Classic sounds = Good. Halo 4 SFX = Bad.

Completely agree.
I hope we can switch to classic Halo 2 sounds in Halo 2 anniversary multiplayer since 343i said they will make those sound more “modern”.

I swear, if my Warthogs sound like RC cars again…

I thought CEA’s remastered sounds were outstanding, hoping the same goes for Halo 2’s.

They’re most likely doing it the same way they did CE, the H2A Battle Rifle already sounds awesome from what I have heard of it.

Once again, you hate real weapon sounds. Based on the video and my own memory I’m pretty sure the rocket launcher’s sound is that of the M72 LAW’s.

I don’t hate real gun sounds; it’s just, the guns in Halo 4 don’t sound real, much less do they sound good.

That video is a pretty lousy example, seeing as the guns in Halo 4 sound nothing like that; what the hell happened between recording the sounds of real guns and implementing them into the game? What we got in Halo 4 sounds nothing like what they show in that video.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter to me if it’s realistic, what matters is it sounds GOOD, first and foremost. The weapons and vehicles in Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo:Reach all sounded fantastic (with the exception of the Halo 3 Assault Rifle), there was no reason for 343i to change them. Classic Halo sound FX FTW.

exactly my thoughts. i’d prefer the sounds of halo 4 over every other Halos.
but i can understand people, who don’t like the sounds.
i’d still rather say the mixing & mastering of the sounds did fail, not the sounds themselves.

Exactly, they did screw up the mixing of the sounds in Halo 4, and that’s why they should never be used in any Halo game again, ever. As in NEVER… and especially not in Halo 2:Anniversary.

I hope they give it a fresh sound based on the H2 original. I see no reason why they would steal H4’s sounds.

In H4’s defense (one of the few things I will still defend about it) the sounds for the weapons were decent, and I feel would be better if my flat screen didn’t have such bad speakers. The vehicles, though… not so much a lot.

The AR and Chaingun Turrets sound pretty close to what was in the video.

I usually don’t have a problem with the sounds that are used in Halo games they have all been good but the sounds that you hear in halo 2 anniversary campaign for the BR and the SMG just don’t have that crack or bang that usually hear with a weapon, my own gun is a 22 and sounds more powerful than the BR does.

Nope. Not even close. I don’t know what the hell they did with the weapon sounds, but they neither sound realistic, nor do they sound good. 343i completely and utterly failed in the sound effects department in Halo 4.

They seem to be doing a little better in Halo 2:Anniversary; the new Battle Rifle and SMG don’t sound too bad, but my concern is with the other weapons. If they end of using the Halo 4 sounds for the Magnum, Rocket Launcher, or Warthog… or really, anything, I’m gonna be really disappointed.

I’m wondering if 343i knows they screwed up… because most of the sound effects in Halo:Spartan Assault were taken from Halo:Reach, despite the trailers showing them using the SFX for Halo 4.

Halo guns have always sounded kind of fake, like fake sounds not samples taken from actual guns firing. Halo 4 had some improvements, but some were just bad. Like the BR for example. Halo 3s assault rifle sounded too quiet. Halo reach had some of the best sounds up to that point.

The Halo 4 sounds had a more realistic tone, and a slight echo/or environmental sound that a real gun would make, not all of the FX were good however.

Halo 2 originally, had atrocious weapon sfx, aside from maybe the BR which had an alright feel. From what ive seen of the anniversary, it looks like an improvement, especially for the SMG.

> I thought CEA’s remastered sounds were outstanding, hoping the same goes for Halo 2’s.

You know, I’ve been thinking… which sounds should they use for the Assault Rifle in H2:A multiplayer? You think they’ll use the same ones as Halo:CEA, Halo:Reach, or Halo 4?

It would be awesome if they used Halo:CEA’s AR sounds… but I wouldn’t mind at all if they used Halo:Reach. So long as they don’t use the busted popcorn machine sounds they used for the Halo 4 AR.

You’re being way too biased here.

Remember the Halo 3 AR sounds?

There are some sound effects that were VASTLY improved by 343i. The Sniper in Halo Anniversary, the DMR in Halo 4, the AR in Halo Anniversary/4, the Warthog Engine in Halo 4, Plasma Pistol Semi-Auto shots in Halo 4.

Sure there are a lot of sounds that sucked, but there are others that were also drastically improved.

Really? I absolutely love the sounds in Halo 4. The sniper rifle, beam rifle, AR, SAW, plasma pistol, DMR, Ghost, Wraith. Pretty much everything sounds great in 4. Can’t recall any sound in Halo 4 I dislike.

The Warthog engine? Are you serious; it makes this ridiculous buzzing noise like an RC car in Halo 4! Halo:Reach’s Warthog sounded WAY better.

Of course, everything sounded fantastic in Halo:CE Anniversary, no arguments there, but in Halo 4… no. Just… no.
