I think I’ve already seen people talk about this in the past, but I just want to gauge the latest user opinions on the gun sounds.
To me, it sounds like crickets are being shot constantly with these high pitched tingy sounds. I’ve been playing on my friends Xbox, and I have not gotten used to these new “futuristic” sound effects at all. Anybody else think they should take these sound effects out for the guns?
The weapons/grenades sound good so far. My only complaint is with the AR. It sounded very good in Halo 4 and it also functioned better than it did in the beta.
As for other sounds, I really don’t like all those high-pitched sounds, especially the kill indicator. It even makes the best montages sound silly every time you hear it.
The thrusters sound isn’t great, too. they sounds like when using nitro on NFS. Again, Halo 4’s thrusters sounded better, imo.
I’d also like more verity in the Spartan’s callouts voices and an option to turn them off.
Finally, the announcer. You’re probably well aware of that.
The high-pitched hitmarkers were already removed before the Beta. We were just playing a several-month-old version. Plus, the weapon sounds aren’t done. There’s still 8-10 months until release.

This. Before the Beta came out, 343 released a gameplay clip showing some changes they’d made. There was no ground pound reticule, and the pinging noise only sounded on a kill. Plus, during the beta they confirmed flinch was a bug, if you didn’t already know.

I hope they tune/mix/master the guns similar to how H2A was (or at least use that group again).
The sword was different, but the shotgun was nice to me (see in as it was a true shotgun, beefed up in production). Anything beats the H3 sounds to me (4 had some good stuff, but the BR sounded weird to me. The beta was better)

Which’s exactly why I said “kill-indicator” rather than “hit-indicator”. You could still hear it after scoring a kill.

The H2A shotgun sounded like a pop gun to me. The H4 one has a brilliant compact booming noise. I never really minded the H4 BR sound, but I agree the new sound is better. Looks better too.
The BR in Halo 5 sounds much better than the one in Halo 4 … that thing was a cricket.
I’ve worked with audio production for about 15 years now, and 343 have proven themselves to me to be masters at sound-design. I’m quite curious to know what compressors they use that can make the sound hit so hard while remaining very clean.
I use studio headphones when I play and also have a sound system for my TV with a subwoofer and all, and I can tell you, there is quite a bit going there in all frequency ranges.
I do prefer the AR sound in Halo 4, but this one isn’t bad either. None of them sounded annoying to me.
