Before a month ago, I had only ever played Halo Wars (and the Minecraft Mash-up pack). Now with Infinite arriving sometime that I guess to be from the 5th to the 19th of November, I started on my friend’s old edition of Halo: CE. I am playing all of the original games (no MCC or Anniversary editions) through the campaign, but they take getting used to and some knowledge. Please provide any tips that you can on how I can get good at these games (and how the heck I will be can to get to rank 152 in Guardians). No advice is bad or unwelcome. If this topic has been posted already, please send me in the right direction.

First point of advice, don’t try to reach Rank 152 in Guardians. It isn’t going to be worth it. Take the time to enjoy the games and learn the nuances, not just get grind heavy in XP heavy playlists.
Depending on what difficulty you play on, the advice varies. It also depends how much FPS experience you have. You can basically stomp through the campaigns on normal or easy without using hardcore tactics or strategy.
Overall strategy though, is always keep a precision weapon on you (Pistol, Battle Rifle, Carbine, Light Rifle, DMR) for headshots. Grunts are easy one hit headshots, and jackals are two hits - one hit on their gun hand to pop them up, another in the face. Your backup should be either a power weapon (use advantageously in certain situations), or a plasma gun. An overcharged plasma pistol bolt will fully drop an Elite’s shields or Brute’s power armor. Followed up with a headshot, as long as you’re patient and methodical, you should be able to handle them.
Generally take things slow, learn the map and terrain, and the enemies you’re about to deal with. Try to get decent checkpoints in fire fights, and don’t get caught out in the open.
When dealing with Flood, a shotgun or sword, and an automatic weapon are typically your best choices.
Oh, and in CE - hunters are one shot kills with the pistol. Watch a quick YouTube video on how do to this - will save you tons of ammo and grenades.
My best tip is to start by getting used to the game mechanics and then attempt to find effective strategies for the respective games. Most of the campaign missions do usually become a lot easier if yow know what to expect and are aware of the present and the future. This do especially apply when the game is played on a higher difficulty like Legendary.
Finally, to address you question about reaching SR152 in Halo 5. The most effective method which can be used to complete this task is to play the game a lot and to have full awareness on how the xp system functions. Some playlists are a bit more time effective than other playlists either due to higher overall payouts per minute or that it’s easier to find matches.
Honestly, just play around with the older games! Enjoy them on easy and get a feel for the maps and weapons. Stick to the meta for higher difficulties, such as noob combo (plasma pistol, precision weapon) for elites, and shotgun magnum for flood for CE. H2 is the same just use the BR with all other combos, and trade the shotgun for sword. H3 is more of the same as H2. By H4 you’ll really know all you need to.
There’s absolutely no way or point to grinding out max rank for H5 at this point unless you’re already on 151 or something, it just won’t happen as it takes around 72 days worth of playing, around 3,000 WZ games and 3,000 Arena games.
Most importantly! Just enjoy yourself!!! If you find yourself getting stuck feel free to message me :).
