I’m a very competitive player. If Halo 4 is not competitive then I will retire from gaming entirely. The news of specializations has the competitive players up at arms against the casuals and 343 alike.
I am here to say that the specializations are fine.
No single specialization is game breaking and provide passive advantages at best. These things are nothing in comparison to some of the other things we heard about like the regen, the return of the god forsaken jetpack and armor mods that increase your shield recharge; those things greatly impact the game while the specializations do not.
Here is the thing, all these things are great for pubs and BTB. They add replayability and accessibility to the game. Customization and personalization is the future of gaming and there is no fighting that. HOWEVER, one thing that we can always rely on is the option of playing a stripped down, bare bones Halo and as long as that option remains, all is good with the world.

Stripped down, cult, mainstream breakout? Bare bones gameplay favored by diehard fans having their dreams realized?
With all this 343 is pretty much obligated to provide a classic game mode right out the gate. What other way to settle the uprising other than provide the traditional experience along side the new one? I don’t expect 343 to shove the new gameplay down everyone’s throats b/c that would be stupid and for that reason I fully expect the game to be cut right down the middle, Infinity and Classic. Everyone is happy.

I agree, like I’ve always said. I’m saving my final judgment until I see the game in my hands.

They are fine honestly, so are the other items you listed in your post. Jetpack itself has been stripped down to nothing more than a vertical thruster pack that gives you a quick jump up that lasts barely a second, its no longer a game breaker. Most features 343 has added is to simply add a litte more personalization and benefit to people who prefer to play the game a certain way, and even the shield boost package you mention simply converts a 5 shot kill to a 6 shot kill from the DMR or such. So I really dont feel anything is unbalanced or gamebreaking, I dont see why some people whine about Halo 4 so much its similiar to a fresh start for the series which is a good thing.
i am fine with all of the changes we have seen with halo. halo needs this to stay in the game. after 10 years+ of being the same game we all know and love, what would it hurt to see it evolve, after all we can sure guarantee with halo 4 combat evolved has a brand new meaning and halo 4 will not dissapoint, i hate the CoD franchise but halo stepped it up way past that, i would like to see CoD players step away from it and get into halo and be like wow i like this game a lot halo has made good improvements, and halo will gain support of all kinds of gamers to make this franchise even more popualr than it has been, its all about the company taking its risks to expand how fans will come from all over to try this new halo experience

And I agree but to alienate all the fans of the original gameplay that they have come to love for over 10 years is criminal.
I hope there really is the divide of classic and infinity multiplayer game modes.

That’s not what it does and it would make a huge difference, like the 5sk BR compared to the traditional 4sk. The shield boost just makes it recharge faster (but it still takes the same time to start recharging after getting shot).
I like specializations but giving more initial choices to players who spent more money on Limited Edition is a bit unfair.
I agree with you Nicky, I feel Halo 4 is very much the Halo we all know and love and 343 have taken great steps to please every generation and the fans of Crysis, and even Call of Duty as well I would say. Branching out the series and adding new elements to it as well is a good idea, it gives the games more ground to stand on going forward, and hopefully this will increase the fanbase even more due to it.

People who pre-ordered, are paying $100 for a game. I think 343 is gonna make it worth the hundred bucks.

Where are you getting this info about the jetpack? I haven’t heard anything about the jetpack yet.

I know, but the free map packs, FUD, and all the other stuff literally makes it pay for itself. They could have offered something else in place, or nothing at all.
It wouldn’t have made much of a difference even if nothing extra was given judging from the current pre-order’s (Where none of us really knew what specializations were, therefore not considering them a factor when pre-ordering).
I’m not overly concerned about the balance issues of class specialization, nor am I’m really put off by it either. I think it could be a very enjoyable and balanced game…
But, it’s not the game I want to play. Stripped down bare bones Halo is what I’ve always enjoyed. Halo was the sweet spot between squad based shooters and twitch arena shooters. It probably will continue to be so as well, but all these additions are of non-interest to me.
All the same, the core mechanics of the game look awesome. The customization looks awesome. Forge looks iffy, as do the default maps, but at least the game will definitely provide some amazing gameplay when stripped down. Granted of course we can scrounge up some decent maps…
I’m only going to stick to classic up until the MLG playlist is released. So, my only concern with these specialisations is that it will just be another thing that will need to be removed for the MLG playlist to work and this will just in turn decrease the amount of newcomers to the playslist. Thats what happened with Reach. Reach MLG is a whole new game compare to Vanilla Reach and so newcomers never bothered to learn how to play Halo all over again and stuck to the -Yoink- Vanilla side.
Keep in mind that Stalker may be changed between now and the game’s release. We know 343 cares about our input, it’s possible they’re already making changes based on what they’ve read.
Ive been a Halo Gamer since CE And i think that these Specializations are a great addition, Games evolve , Things change and this inclusion just gets me even more excited to jump into War Games and have a great time, I have faith that 343i Will produce a great game and think People need to lay off with the complaints. Its 343’s Game and they have the right to add new things into it, I cant wait to get my Hands on this game and pick a Spec!
