Allow me to preface this thread by saying I’m hoping it only applies to 360 counsel owners.
(Who made the wise decision to postpone purchasing their Xbox One counsel until H5 dropped)
H5 is being released for the Xbox One and not the 360. Why is this important to note, because the Xbox One requires it’s users to be plugged into the internet at all times in order to use this platform. And no matter how much I dislike this aspect of the Xbox One counsel… The decision was made entirely by Microsoft, not 343i.
So before you come to waypoint to bash 343i and how they are destroying the halo franchise just think, “why would they include split screen for a game being developed on a counsel which is required to always be online”.
I see where you’re coming from, Buda, but the Xbone doesn’t require you to be online. Pre-release, Microsoft did say that the Xbone would always require an internet connection, but it caused an uproar from gamers and Microsoft actually rescinded the statement and changed the policy before launch. Not everyone got the memo that Microsoft changed the policy, so a lot of people still think the Xbone requires an internet connection.
So basically, if H5 were to have splitscreen, people could play splitscreen offline.
Hope I helped clear this up for you, and as always, Happy Haloing!

You don’t have to be plugged in to the internet to play on the XB1. (Thankfully)
And if that feature wasn’t removed, how does that affect the split screen issue? A lot of people play Multiplayer with splitscreen. And what does having internet connection have to do with playing the campaign cooperatively?
Wait a minute. I remember Microsoft making the claim: “the Xbox one doesn’t require it’s user to be plugged in”.
But my internet went down for about 30 plus hours a few months back… And no matter what I tried, I couldn’t access my profile until I used my phone as a WiFi hotspot. Because all gamer tags/profiles are cloud based and not part of your systems hard drive.

Dude. I hear you. I’m not the strongest gamer in the world and I like to complete each campaign on the Mythic/Laso difficulty (at least I endeavor to do so ). So needless to say, COOP is a huge benefit for me.
I just think it’s wrong to bash 343i for not including SplitScreen because guardians was built from the ground up for the Xbox One. And Guardians probably began development circa 2012 (with early concepts going back before 2012) and at the time, 343i was more than likely operating under the directive from Microsoft is building the One counsel with the “must be online” prerequisite.
Wait wait wait wait, we are nearly two years into this console’s life time and people still think the DMI crap is still apart of the One? My god people do you even use the internet…?

As recently as January 343 were saying they planned to include splitscreen. Microsoft’s abandoned concept for the console has had no impact on the presence of splitscreen.

Those are usually because of the game, not the XB1. I can’t play Titanfall or Destiny without a connection. But I can play the MCC, and AC unity. I’ve been unable to sign in a few times and it was usually because of XBL issues.

Yes you can. Go into network settings and select “Go Offline”.
The XB1 allows you to play offline but only if you own a physical copy of the game. If you are like me and purchase digital copies of all of your games then yes you do have to be connected to the internet.
