Grunts can live upto 400 years and mature rather quickly.
This means on zeta halo, you may be shooting a 10 year old who has never seen combat in the face or a 300 year old that has seen the grunt rebellion, human covenant war, created war, and now zeta only to get shot in the face by a guy named John.
No wonder grunts are so cocky. they are a meme.

Y’know, that almost makes me feel bad when I melee a grunt off the edge of the map in campaign. They’ve seen so much, only to die like an idiot. So sad.
most grunts lean towards the 10 year old as they are cannon fodder, that said. the two HVT’s in infinite are older ones, YapYap the destroyer is 122 at the time of infinite, and I am sure a few are older then that.
I would guess the elite grunts are on the older side you don’t get to the rank of ultra when you haven’t seen and survived combat.
Wouldn’t be surprised if some of the ultra’s we see in infinite have fought the flood in high charity
Ya ive always wanted a halo where you fight on a multi species squad and have a sort of hub ship between missions and can chat to crew who feature a wise old grunt as the armourer who takks about before humanity fought the covies and of exploits from past games and the big reveal would be in the last level he reveals hes the grunt from halo 3 and gives the player the fist of rukt saying not to break it because its very old.
Strange little thing id have liked to see from halo haha.
