So I am trying to complete the grunt mech commendation. What is the best playlist and way to go about doing so? any suggestions or tips would be awesome. Just an FYI I have played about two dozen heroic firefight matches and yet to see single grunt mech which is weird.
Keep playing Heroic FF as it’s the best place for this commendation. Some maps can have up to three mechs in a single match such as Skirmish at Darkstar or the Temple one from WZA. Scorpions worked well for me. Usually by the time a grunt mech appears you should be around req level 6 so calling one in shouldn’t be an issue. Wraiths are good too, but I prefer the accuracy a Scorpion has at range. Either way, they both do a good chunk of damage so just make sure you hit it a lot at the end.
Also in case you aren’t aware, you’ll know you got the mech kill if you get a grunt kill medal at the same time as the boss kill medal.
Legendary (and Mythic) Warzone Firefight. Sanctum, Stormbreak, Temple, Apex, Darkstar, and Prospect all have rounds with a Grunt Goblin. You have a chance to face more than one Grunt Mech on Sanctum, Stormbreak, Darkstar, Temple, and Prospect. Use tanks or wraiths to take them out. And just remember, only landing the kill shot gives you credit towards the commendation.
What power weapon or vehicle does the most damage towards the grunts? Would this be the Scorpion tank for vehicle? What about the power weapon? What are the major weakpoints?
As the others have said, keep playing Heroic Warzone Firefight and try to land the kill shot. I think I heard that you can headshot the grunt inside the mech when his visor cracks or something like that. I don’t know, I remember hearing something like that sometime. Anyway, if you figure out how to do it, you’ll be landing the kill shot fairly consistently.

Scorpions and Wraiths are the best vehicles for the job.

By using a spartan laser or binary rifle you can destroy the canopy of the mech and then headshot the grunt. Some people have a lot of success using this method, but scorpions worked just fine for me still.
like the warden you have to get the very last shot and it isn’t that easy. one thing i have done lately that worked twice is right before he dies run up to him on foot and spartan charge followed by nonstop melee and with everyone else firing at him it counted 2 kills for the warden finally for me but the grunt i still don’t have one even when i was sure i got the last shot and since it wasn’t retroactive when they put it into the game whatever the number of times i ever killed it prior never counted and my warden spartan charge melee method i haven’t had success with on the grunt mech as he just all over and his needles are brutal so basically get a gun or vehicles something that fires fast and when its almost dead fire and hope you get credit for the kill. Unlike the other enemy commendations the warden and grunt mech have this last shot thing that has been a nightmare as i don’t expect to get it every time but still my personal ratio on the warden isn’t great and the grunt since i don’t know anything prior shows still i have not one single kill so i know how you feel it is frustrating.
I prefer using banshee ultras and phatons against them
Side question - I’ve only played the first 2 missions. Are there grunt mechs in the campaign or it is just a Warzone thing?
If there are Grunt Mechs in the campaign, would they count for the commendation? Same question for the Wardens in the campaign…

No the Grunt mech was added in a later update. Not sure which update it was but the game had already been out for a year or so. Its only warzone firefight or warzone thing.

i wish there were. than the repetetive warden boss fight, grunt mechs are hilarious when they kill a spartan they’ll say “Another st*pid human down” i forgot the other things they say. By the way, yes you can headshot the grunt inside the mech. However breaking their visor is a challenge. Goodluck getting the Grunt Mech Slayer Gold Pack.

Sentinel beams.
Everybody here is telling you to use only vehicles and maybe some explosives but they aren’t apparently aware of something that is extremely effective against grunt mechs, hunters, Knights, and really anything with armor on it. Talon of the Lost rare needler pierces through the armor and actually HITS their health instead of ticking it, but don’t expect it to be a kind of cheese cause everything takes time to kill.

use a laser and shoot the energy shield that the grunt is behind and when it gets destroyed, shoot the grunt with a headshot weapon. i think the fastest iv’e done it in was like 20 seconds
I’ve read most the replies. All good advice. Agree with Heroic FF… Games are quicker and better chance of playing ones with Mech’s. I found that any directional weapon or direct targeting vehicle works best. But the key is to make sure you land the kill shot. This is accomplished by focusing your aim on the nose portion of the Mech once it starts to catch fire and the Mech’s health bar is at lowest point. (If the Mech starts to suicide charge then that’s a dead give away) The nose shot will get you the kill. If you chose REQ weapons I have found that the Spartan Lazer and Binary Riffle are most effective. Keep in mind you have to pay attention to how much damage is being dealt by all other players so you can be sure to time your last shot correctly. Its easy to get the credit for the boss take down, as several players will, but timing is everything if you want the actual credit for the Grunt Mech Slayer Commendation itself
I’m close myself so I’m actively making the grind as I got only 4 more to go. Hope this helps

Hey, I had not tried Talon of the Lost on Grunt Mechs before. I’m intrigued by this. Next Mech I face I am going to give this a try.
Let’s not revive old topics, thanks
