I must’ve played 30 firefight matches this weekend for xp purposes and only 4 grunt mechs came up the entire time. Even on the maps where there can be 2 at once, those rounds were never triggered. I literally only need 5 to put away my enemy commendations completely.
Do you find when you’re looking for something specific, it becomes suddenly elusive?
To answer your question, in some ways it does. But, I think it becomes a psychological thing at one point and you end up focusing on the fact that the game isn’t providing you with what you need. But try telling me that when I’m actually playing a game haha. Sometimes it can be bs, but mechs spawn regularly. They are rare which can make the commendation annoying, especially since it’s not retroactive, but you can definitely do it!

In my opinion yes. I’ve had times in Halo 5 where I needed to complete a commendation but it becomes really hard even the easy challenges. Even in other games I’ve experienced this some more than others. However, I would like to agree with tuhin94 that is like a psychological thing in some cases. It’s either that or having terrible luck.

You were in a firefight match with me last night.
I did manage to snag a couple of grunt mechs last night. Sorrow of teash/headshot combo is so effective when teammates don’t realize what you’re doing.
There was no shortage of them in my firefight matches last night. Think we went through at least 5 or 6.
It’s in your head. Just keep playing, you’ll get those 5 eventually.

Didn’t know the Plasma Rifle would be so effective against the mech.

It pops their shield quite quickly and exposes the grunt inside to a headshot. I mean you need other teammates firing at it to keep it distracted because you obviously need to be reasonably close to it.
The sorrow of teash takes longer to overheat I believe, which is why it is the preferred plasma rifle.
I believe the Spartan lasers work well too.
The match I was in was on Apex 7.
Yeah it’s kinda like that with the commendation with the brute plasma rifle for me. Been trying to get the last few that I need and can’t manage to get a kill with that crappy thing. The kill either gets stolen by a teammate or they manage to kill me before I can kill them.

I honestly feel I’ve done 80% of the damage on them before, only to die and watch it get taken down. To add insult to injury, I don’t even get the boss kill medal.

Trick to grunt Mechs is definitely use a tank. Try to keep your distance and time that last shot to be the kill shot. Except on Apex seven the final round with a grunt mech… Use that pillar of that column as cover from his needle blast and when close up it’s easier to get the kill shot.

Use it on the backend of a weapon combo. Works very well.
Just takes time to get it done, but it will happen if you play enough Firefight.
All RNG based, I’ve gotten them quite a few times.
I’m still really not getting many at all. Glad the xp payout is decent at least.

You playing Heroic or Legendary? They show up all the time for me on Heroic.
Same issue. I have exactly 5 left and have been there for a few months. Nothing to do but keep on playing.

The Halo 2 Beam rifle delta takes the yellow canopy shield of a grunt mech out in 7 shots and I think in the blue one it’s 3 or 4 but it as to be direct hits om the shield and also binary works well against it too. I also do the plasma rifle combo as well :]
There are maps in rotation in Legendary Warzone right now that have mechs.
I know I’ll get them. Down to 4 remaining. It’ll reach a point where I’m playing mostly firefight to get through 150 and 151.
Even if I don’t get them soon, it’ll happen eventually.
The commendation is one of the most frustrating to begin with, but add in a random period of infrequent grunt mech rounds. Super annoying.

I agree. Some are like that. I was exceedingly frustrated with the mongoose kill commendation too. Too few people jump on those and tend to jump off real quick when the do. Then if you don’t hit engine area you’ll probably just kill the driver without destroying mongoose.
