Ground Pound

Thoughts on Ground Pound:

Not a good/useful mechanic in Halo. I forced myself to try it out in the Pre-beta regularly, and it NEVER felt like a good option. I did manage to get kills with it, but I could have easily gotten those kills in other ways, with my shields in tact. Died WAAAAAAAY to often, and this is when it is still early and people aren’t as good and it should be the EASIEST to kill with it.

Right now it is just a mechanic that feels worthless but always lingers in your mind, and at times hinders your jumps and ruins the crouch jump ability. It is basically the new Armor Lock. Its sort of interesting and fun, but overall bleh for the game and once everyone has figured it out will become ENTIRELY worthless. It should not be improved simply because then it will get spammed like crazy and create a whole new assortment of problems (without really fixing the original problems).

Love what you guys are doing with the game, but this is one that needs to go.

I wouldn’t mind if ground pound were to be removed. Or the shoulder-slam.

I’m okay with Slide and with Sprint having a no-shield consequence, and thrusters seem … well, I’ll have to try those first before I say. But ground pound and shoulder-slam seem annoying.

I feel that it will be a mechanic that will be used more for mobility than for kills.

I don’t mind ground pound. It’s satisfying to get a kill with it, and it’s never abused.

As someone disenfranchised by Halo after Halo 4, I am encouraged by a lot of what I see in Guardians. It seems like they’re walking the very fine line between old roots and new freshness quite well.

But I’m with on the GP – it feels like the one thing that is a blatant attempt to mimic other franchises. It just doesn’t feel like Halo. Plus, it has the ability to 1-hit kill. Didn’t we learn anything from Halo 4 about spawning with the ability to 1-hit kill?

Granted, I have yet to play it (I might not, MCC isn’t high up on my wish list) so I’ll reserve final judgment. But this is the one thing that really doesn’t feel right to me.

This is the only thing I really don’t like from when it was announced and into watching game play. It just seems so ridiculously gimmicky
