Greetings, Fellow Spartans.
Back when Grifball was first introduced in Halo 3, my buddies and I instantly fell in love with it and drew an immediate parallel to football as I’m sure many others did. Well, we thought why not take it the next step and when Halo: Reach with its extensive Forge World came about, we began working on the next Grifball evolution. What we came up with is Grifketball. If Grifball is like football, then Grifketball is basketball. We did our best to maintain many of the fundamentals of Grifball but gave each arena its own uniqueness while keeping uniformity throughout all the different arenas in regards to hoop height and such. We ultimately came up with about 6 or 7 maps and found friends and friends of friends playing for hours in what we discovered to be a highly addictive game type.
That brings us to the release of Halo 4. We’ve brought the game mode back and are now trying to get it off the ground and perhaps have it implemented as a Grifball variant in a matchmaking playlist if you the community find it as playable and addicting as we do.
Its a pretty straight forward game type. 4-10 players. If you already love Grifball, then this is the next evolution. The game consists of four 3-minute “quarters” (rounds). Each quarter begins with the ball spawning in the middle as usual, but in Grifketball it spawns in the air so that the opposing teams have to jump for it, kinda like a tip-off in real basketball. Grab the ball and slam hit home in the opposition’s basketball. Each time the ball is scored it immediately resets in the middle but the clock continues rolling until the end of the quarter. If the ball falls off the court (goes “out of bounds”) it resets. That’s pretty much it. The great thing that Halo 4 provides is the ability to “pass” the ball, so try an alley-oop if you want.
Here are the details. Game Type and Map Variant can be found in my file share.

This was a collaborative effort between myself and Chunky Mudd, who did a lot of the work on the maps you’ll see in the videos linked below. The videos are clips from the Halo: Reach maps. They’ve gotten plenty of views worldwide and lots of good feedback in the comments section.
Please respond with your thoughts. Hopefully you go and try it out and if many people like it, maybe 343 will incorporate it into the playlist. Have fun and make buckets!
