Over the past months I’ve gotten into Grifball, really liking it and gotten somewhat decent at it.
I am noticing (consistently) that grifball gameplay differs per match, per day, etc… The timing for hammer kills seems to be variable, and since it’s so essential it quite often ruins the game for me. Sometimes/somedays I will lose almost any 1v1 I engage in (even if it looks/sounds like we hit at the exact same time) and some days I will rape and win every duel (which might be the same that the other guys are experiencing against me sometimes?). Some days I will get a 0.5 ish KD even against low ranks while playing defensively. Other days I will get 3 ish KD, one day I got 3 killtaculars in like an hour without the bomb or spawnkilling.
It seems so random. Could this have to do with my connection as well? I am on the local university network and that’s usually uber bitchass (donwload 10 movies in 10 minutes ish). It does seem a bit variable as well though lately…
I like playing careful and getting good stats (just gave up grifball for today and made up for my losses, went 53-20 on multi team headhunter), and my motivation on grifball is decreasing more and more, since I don’t have as much control on that playlist.
If anyone would be able to advise, thanks!
Oh and btw, does anyone ever manage to play Hand Egg (on Hyperbaric)? I did it twice thus far and loved it, but the option almost never comes up.
The problem with Grifball is it is so biased to the host it can make some games unbearable. The host always seems to have a hammer radius of an extra 5 metres than you do. I find that when i get really laggy games that stiking the hammer a fraction of a second earlier can make the difference in those one on one duals.
Hand Egg, I have never seen it come up. What is different about it.

Hand Egg is with a Golf Ball (also spawns center) that can be used to splatter people and to which the bomb is reset after it is dropped. It adds more chaos, good times. =] (Oh and the hammers look like golf clubs)
Host draw is certainly a frustrating issue when it comes down to duels. Rather than push forward, draw them in closer when you are lagging. You will win more that way and at the very least trade kills.
Btw anyone got some tips for me about the bomb? I can’t get the hang of using it. Some people seem to jump forward almost as if it has a lunge attack like the sword. I can take on newbs or people who want to much or don’t see me coming (with the sword), but some guys will pummel me down even when I have sword AND I am walking back because I see them wanting to kill me AND I jump+lunge as soon as it’s possible. How?! xD I don’t get it.
All I do is run to people that are busy or in the way to the target and melee when I’m in the usual melee range. Once I got a killtacular or something with just this, but usually I get killed pretty soon, even with hammers. I also don’t get why sometimes a hammerstrike will be 1-hit-KO and sometimes not.
I hate Grifball for this reason. It’s why I never play it.
Very often I get killed, I can never swing the hammer at the right moment, or when I do I die anyways and somehow the other person swings the hammer faster then me.
Isn’t there a better way to organize things in matchmaking/server stuff? (I have no clue about this). I quit playing grifball altogether and about to do the same for Living Dead because I keep getting killed like seconds after I headshot a zombie…
