Grifball: Ranked or Social?

In the event that we ever get ranked and social playlists out of 343 even if it’s not until Halo 5, should Grifball be ranked or social?

probably ranked. because i think if it was itd be a better way to introduce people to the grifball league stuff and make it more of a legitimate playlist to the more competitive crowd. plus it may help with the spawn camping problem if you are more worried about getting as many wins as you can.

This is off topic but: have they ever made a court where players spawned behind shield doors? I feel like that might help solve the spawning situation…

Spawn killing is an intended part of the game design.

So, no.

Sorry for the newb question. Guess you can tell I’m not hip to the grif scene.

Way too host dependent to be ranked.

technically yes but only if you are doing it to shut down the other team and score. the point of doing it was to score. but it gets abused. ive joined games where all 4 people on the other team had over 1000 points and there were no balls scored. so thats why it needs to be “fixed” with a rank.

This.

yeah griffball was ranked in Halo 3 for like 2 weeks. That was the time period you would rack up kills and lose the game on purpose so no fools could rank up in it. We don’t need lvl 50 griffball players running around who go -10 in normal playlists. No thanks.

Griffball is anything but skill related. It should remain social as it always has been in Halo 3, Reach, and Halo 4.

Grifball is as social as they come.

other than lone wolves the biggest part of someones rank is usually how well they can coordinate as a team. if there is a team of people who work really well together in objective based games but aren’t that good at slayer why shouldnt they be able to have their own skill rank??

> Grifball is as social as they come.

action sack??

Grifball might as well be in the Action Sack, they’re on the same plane.

Not that I think it should, just saying they’re pretty related.

Grifball is a community gametype/playlist, and why it can be competitive, in a Matchmaking setting, it isn’t. So thus, if this was like Halo 3, it would be in the Social category.

I’m pretty sure though, when CSR comes out, every playlist will have 1-50.

For everyone that is saying it is social: why can’t people still play it socially when it’s ranked? The people that don’t really care about being competitive won’t rank up so competitive players will quickly separate. I don’t see why it shouldn’t be ranked for those who care, and then those who don’t care shouldn’t care anyway… Idunno.

You seem to be under the impression that social is a bad thing, every gametype has their place, ranked is no better than social playlists.

It’s a lot better to play a social playlist competitively than play a ranked playlist socially.

I’m not.

I’m asking for a justification. Why is it better?

Well I know for myself personally I’d rather play a social game with people who are trying to win than play a ranked game with teammates who aren’t actively playing to win.

So even though you’d rather it be social. Competivness suddenly matters to you in the event that it is ranked?

What if it only displayed rank after a certain point?

Rank means nothing to me, I’m not one of the people clamoring for it.

It’s just each playlist has a different aspect to it. I play things like Action Sack and Grifball for variety, maybe to get back on track after a few poor games. When I play like Team Slayer or Objective I certainly want my team to play like they know what they’re doing.
