Grifball newbie

I have not played Grifball in previous versions of Halo so I was intrigued to find out what the fuss was about. Just finished a few games and I have to ask, is there some deep level of understanding and a learning curve to this, or is it really just mindless carnage? First few games were amusing but I’m already wondering if I will find myself coming back to this.

I didn’t play it in H4, but there definitely is a bit of a curve from H3. The added ability to throw it across the court to a winger running in on goal is amazing. Basically, hammer>sword, unless you’re chasing the ball carrier. Don’t kill your teammates. Don’t yolo-rush the ball to the other base by yourself. It’s definitely got that social feel that everyone’s been missing, though.

It’s a mixture of hidden skill and beautiful chaos.

For the carrier, use the sword. And it really helps to figure out the timing for the hammer.

I never understood the obsession with it either. It’s fun but it gets old after a few games, even with a team. I think the H3 version was better anyways, but I never played it much.

I dont see the fun off it with the major lag in that playlist, i try to kill, i get killed in 1 shot instead, it sucks.

Delete the playlist, its dumb.

Yes. Delete a fan-favorite playlist because you don’t like it.

Good talk.

For me they can remove it because i dont like it , yes i dont think this has a place in a competitive shooter.

And you can do nothing to stop me thinkin that.

It was made by a community gaming company, so yes, it belongs in the game

Don’t know what it is?
RvB Griffball Nobody can explain it better then the ones who came up with it.

Ok I’m converted, played it all night and gone through the initial amusement, the “WTF is the point of this?” phase and now I’m really having a laugh with it. The Gravity Hammer is awesome! Mini tip - use the radar, it’s more useful than the rest of the screen!

My one and only tip my dear sir, is to make your priority to be that the ball is at the other end of the court, not necessarily in you possession.

Good Luck in your Grifball Endeavours!!

There is a little bit of a learning curve.
Being able to throw the ball to team mates.
Calculating when to swing the hammer.

Just remember this rock paper scissors
Sword beats grif
Hammer beats sword
Grif beats hammer
That pretty much all you need to know other than learning the swinging patterns

I guess you can look at it as mindless carnage, but with the new mobility platform, there is so much strategy that can be taken into each game. Get a good group of friends going and start running some plays. It’s much more entertaining than just mindlessly swinging your hammer.

You know what is said about opinions.

There takes a lot skill to know when to swing. It seems that folks with better connections get the hit first though.

Grifball is a ton of fun for me because it’s a change of pace. You stop shooting people and instead you take your sword and hammer and smash each other into oblivion, driving the ball home. It’s so much fun, and I am grateful to Sarge for coming up with it! Lol! I’m glad to hear that you have started to enjoy OP! It’s awesome that we have another social game type to add to the mix.

I never played before yesterday and the biggest obstacle I had, was as has been mentioned before…timing the hammer swing. As other wise I enjoy the change of pace it brings.

I never really tried to score, but I love racking up kills in Griff. It can be helpful for guys that like to score anyhow.

Grifball definitely is a nice change of pace. More social than the “social” playlists
