Grifball- just play the game

> I just played two matches of grifball in Reach; In the first match the enemy team grabbed the bomb and went back to a corner while two of his teammates moved forward and attacked, two players on my team went to a corner and stood there for the entire game with the final person on the enemy team. The final person on my team stood in the middle of the arena while tea bagging and the two attacking enemies did not touch him at all. So the game ended up tied because the ball was hid in the corner and it went on for the maximum amount of rounds.
> In the second game I made sure I was not paired with any of the same people. So the enemy team acted the exact same way. (1 in the corner with the bomb, 2 offensive, and the last one followed my 2 passive teammates) The only difference was that my final teammate was actually trying to play the game along with myself.
> I quit the second match about halfway through because It’s not fun dying 90 times in a game when your teammates do nothing to help you. But my point is that these people were not playing the game at all and It seemed like the enemy team in both games were just grinding.
> Is this a trend in Reach’s grifball playlist or was I just coincidentally paired with this type of people twice in a row? Has anyone else seen this?

3 years later and this behavior still happens. Give credits to the winner only and see what happens.

I am reviving this topic because it is currently happening…just because it is from 3 years ago does not make it irrelevant. It is more relevant now than at anytime before. Please let this topic continue so that some discussion can occur and possibly we can resolve some of these issues.

I have been playing the game to win. Occasionally I come across other players who want to “play the game” as it was meant to be played. I was quitting out of games and reporting all players taking part in the “cheating” behaviors. Now I play to win and forget about the fact that I will be spawn killed by both my team and the opposing team. A lot of times, once the other players see I am actually playing to score the bomb, everyone begins to play grifball. Good luck to all who still play this game as it was meant to be played.

The worst part is, players who actually want to play grifball the way it is intended are ganged up on by the enemy team and their own team. The grifball community is so lame at times, that I was able to 4v1 the enemy team and if I had one teammate helping me we would’ve actually ran the bomb to the base.

I’ve tried so many times to actually play but I’ve gotten tired of being spawnkilled so anytime that happens in a match, I just take cover in a corner and wait for the game to be over. I know it’s just encouraging it but I don’t want to trash my K/D. (I probably sound like a noob tbh lol)

One of the recommendations I made in a previous thread was to befriend and play Grifball matchmaking with members of the AGLA (American Grifball League of America), which you can likely find said members here (Click Meh!)

The AGLA is a dedicated, professional, and competetive Grifball community that strictly plays the gametype as intended (Whether it be for fun or seriousness) and members usually have excellent skills in said gametype due to alot of practice. Some members also specialize in creating custom games Grifball courts in Forge. These individuals are extremely dedicated to the gametype and are very respectable, some even have quite the sense of humor. They strongly frown upon people who use Grifball strictly to boost and/or troll and usually only see spawntrapping as legitimate if it is done for a couple of seconds for the sake of scoring the goal(As that would be strategy), not being done to boost stuff.

Until 343i can get around to fixing this if they ever do, getting into a full party with said members for Grifball matchmaking can be really fun, but challenging, as they are really good at Grifball. You might even learn a new trick or two with these guys  .

Great idea lizking. I am actually a former player from AGLA, GGL and the NGA. This probably explains why I am so determined to restore the game to what it once was. I do not currently play with other active members nor do I want to be in a league anymore. I will personally just continue to review and report players that are boosting credits and stats.

Booo, forget the K/D…beat them by insisting to play the game…don’t let them intimidate you into hiding in the corner.

When it’s 7v1, it’s hard to stay alive and fight back before you’re spawnkilled.

I know. I’ve done it many times now…I agree it is discouraging…but I refuse to give up.

People who do this crap should be banned. It ruins the game.

I can understand the people who grind credits by killing the enemy team. In a way, that makes sense. However, what I don’t understand is the constant teamkilling. What’s the gain there? Even if I’m not holding the ball or actively chasing it, I will have members of my team hunting me down or spawnkilling me!

Does 50 betrayals in one match affect your K/D? Or does it only get affected by actual deaths? I want to know.

Doing anything other than trying to score the bomb…ie camping the other teams spawn point for kills, or just playing keep away…is not playing the game as the creators intended. This would be considered cheating ( exploiting the game )…
Being betrayed is a death and is counted in your k/d…If my team spawn kills me 100 times (100 betrayals) and I get 10 kills against the other team I go -90.

But they don’t get a kill scored for killing a teammate, although I think that they think it does… I really wish that teamkilling would negatively impact your K/D. That would help out Grifball a little bit.

I don’t mind spawnkilling if its at least done to get the ball to the goal. But when its just done to prevent people from scoring, yeah, yoink that,

Absolutely! Its a great strategy to score the bomb. I never mind that. If a team cant keep the other team off of their spawn then they will get scored on.

It’s just so stupid that I actually stopped playing Grifball for once. I will NEVER EVER play Grifball again. And sadly, I think there’s nothing to do. Except “removing” the -Yoink- Performance Bonus. Someone in youtube even made a video about how to rank up fast in Halo Reach, and he used that method. It’s so unfair, so frustrating.
But in general, I will never play Grifball regardless of the Halo game. Only in Custom Games, with people that you know won’t be -Yoink-holes.

You can still do Grifball in Matchmaking. Just make sure you have 8 people in your party, so you can play with them

Unfortunately, that’s not the case with me. Basically, I’m always alone. It’s rare to play with someone.

I dont worry about it but if I did I would just get 3 of my friends to go wreck other “teams” that prefer peace matches.

There seems to be no end to the number of players that will boost/cheat in order to get credits. Why not just play the game and get credits as you play? I did it 5+ years ago with no problem…I am an inheritor who did not boost…It was easy

Exactly. I reached inheritor in October of 2011 without any such illicit means of garnering Cr…why this joke of a playlist remains in the game is far beyond my scope of comprehension. I played a few games of this a couple weeks ago to complete a multi-kill daily challenge quickly figuring it would be easy. It was almost impossible as everyone else, even my “teammates”, were completely avoiding any confrontation at all whatsoever. Why bother playing a game like this if you have no intention of going after opponents?
