Griefers - The Mantis

Hey guys,
I decided to make this thread to ask one simple question. Why did 343i add Mantes?

Throughout my fun and enjoyable games of Halo 4, I’ve noticed something. Something that I really do not like and wish 343i fixed. This is people who deliberately go out of there way to make your experience less enjoyable.

I have found that this is happening a lot more since Crimson came out. Now, this map pack was released with three excellent maps. One of them being Shatter. Shatter is such a great objective-based map. However, there is only one reason I try not to get this map and that is because it contains Mantes. Now the Mantis is a great vehicle. I am a huge fan of mechs and always wanted one to be added into Halo.

Now, here’s the reason I don’t like the Mantes. The reason I don’t like this vehicle is because people decide to camp at the Mantis spawn instead of playing the game. This really infuriates me. When I look for a game, I expect my team to play with me and not stay still for half an hour, jump into a vehicle and blow up in a few minutes.

After a while, this was not the case. People started playing normally again. Now when I play Shatter, I suffer the same thing again. This is probably because of the Mantis achievement 343i released in the DLC. As soon as I start the game I find my entire team running toward the Mantis. That’s fine. It isn’t my problem. One thing that I don’t like about this is that sometimes my team decides to kill everyone else around the Mantis or take out their Plasma Pistol. This will result in the enemy team, the team who are actually working together, to get a head start in capturing the objectives, while I’m left all by myself to turn the tides.

Just recently, I thought I’d take the Mantis for a drive to help my team. This was going great. Everyone else accepted that they were too slow and went after the objectives. One guy, however, thought it would be fun to spam me with his Plasma Pistol, making me unable to move and help the rest of my team. Eventually he ran out of ammo and I decided to stomp on him so I could actually get away.

I then started to head towards the Extraction point to help my team. Then the guy respawned. Instead of helping me clear the area for our team, he decides to stun me again. While I was stunned, three enemies came out with rocket launchers and plasma grenades. Now you would have thought that he would kill the rest of the enemies before going back into his little tantrum, right? Think again.

He continued to stun me while we were both getting killed. I eventually managed to kill everyone. Unfortunately, someone managed to plant a grenade on my Mantis. I then blew up and the guy who was stunning me then got killed in the explosion and blamed me for killing him. I could have easily killed the person before he hijacked me, but I was stunned so I couldn’t do anything.

This is why I am asking why 343i put in this vehicle that everyone fights over instead of playing. This is why I do not agree with the Mantis to be a vehicle in Multiplayer Matchmaking. All this results in is people spoiling your fun over a few stupid achievements instead of actually playing the game.

I would provided videos to show you what I’m talking about but 343i have not got around to adding File Browser to halowaypoint.com yet. Either that or I’m as blind as a bat.

Humanity is pathetic.

I feel your pain. When I play on shatter, all I can see is my team pummeling the mantis when someone’s inside it. It’s getting ridiculous and I cannot stand it anymore.

I totally agree. I also wish they would have added the flacon or hornet back in.

Its not only the Mantis, its also the wraith, the banshee… in EVERY Halo game you had griefers that get rearhurt when you get the vehicle instead of them, so they either shot you back then to damage you or if they had a PP they would stun you.

So this is not new, it is hwoever a bit worse in H$ since you can have a PP from the start instead of having it as a pickup weapon.

I think the only issue you have with the mantis is when you are the only one on your team trying to take it down. If the team works on bringing the mantis down it doesn’t last long.

Although I would love to see the Mantes go, I’m 99.9% sure it won’t happen. Things like vehicles can be tweaked or nerfed, but not removed from the game completely.
What I would like to see is vehicle betrayals and teammate’s PP’s unable to stun your vehicles. That is something that should already be in place, especially for the Mantis.

Because of Shatter, I am glad 343 took the DLC away from me. I was going to delete it anyway as the only good map was Harvest and the other two were pathetic.

It was a mistake by 343 to put such a powerful vehicle into matchmaking, now the little noobs think it’s the best way for them to get kills. Ugh, it was such a good idea and a great mech but griefers render it a bad idea.

You can’t even give them the Mantis most of the time! Who rushes the enemy then jumps out of the Mantis because he’s afraid of being hijacked, giving the enemy team other mech. Such fail.

I too have been Plasma spammed while in the Mantis. Very annoying, kind of reflects the attitude that “if I can’t have it, neither can you.” That attitude is very common everywhere I go…

I’d sure like the Mantis to be able to Scope. Nothing huge. Just 2x. Not asking for an accuracy increase either. I just think it would really help because it’s very hard to use the rockets and chaingun at medium-long range.

Other than that I think it’s fine and people who fight over it are children who care way too much about video games.

Yep. They should remove FF from vehicles.

I got griefed in Ragnarok today. If anyone else took the Warthog turret or the Mantis, he’d try to destroy it. If he couldn’t have it, no one would. I saved the video for later.

Your problem is with people, not the mantis. You can’t stop people from being useless in games. That’s just nature. That isn’t a strike against the Mantis or Halo 4, it’s people.

Play with parties, my friend.

You guys are submitting bad player reviews of all these people right? I keep a notepad next to my chair and write down the names of all the tools who do this so I can submit a bad review of them after the match. I also mute them so they get voice banned.

Now some of you are telling me that it has been like this in all the Halo games. The reason I am complaining now is because they added Mantis-specific achievements to the game. Not only this, but the vehicle itself could do with a little nerf. To be honest, I find it quite pathetic that people can’t just accept that the early bird gets the worm. Why can’t people just play together - especially in a team based game - instead of trying to be so competitive all the time and focusing on achievements or K/D Ratios.

The main reasons greifers get away with this:

  1. Custom Classes are broken because you can spawn with a pp.

  2. As stupid of a concept as it is, bullets from weapons such as the DMR are able to damage vehicles, and even kill them.

  3. While most vehicles can only survive less than 30 seconds because of #1 and 2, the mantis has strong armor and shields, giving it a longer average life for a vehicle. This is why it is so valued by players and why players get jealous when someone else gets it. (They will purposfully kill you so it will respawn faster for them. This is the level halo has been brought down to).

This would not have been a problem with the hornet, as it takes less than 5 seconds to take off (unlike the falcon) and after that, no pp team-killer could even come close to greifing you while airborne.

Its funny how the simple stuff the first three games provided are shunned upon. “Oh, this is a new game, I dont want an old halo game with old stuff.” And yet we still get complaints like this that were practically nonexistant in halos ce-3. Halo’s reach and 4 are basically greif friendly.

The difference is that people want a Mantis more than the other vehicles. Mantes are slow and can be easily stunned.
One point I was trying to make is that the Mantes on Shatter make it hard to play as this is the only map to get the Mantes DLC achievements and that is why most people try to get it on Shatter.
