The Halo 4 splinter grenade was weak and it took way too much time to be effective in my opinion. The Halo 5 splinter was tweaked so that it wasn’t as OP from initial launch.

I like the way the H4 one activated and how fast it disappeared. It would need a slight buff to be more relevant. The nerf to the H5 one was good but I still don’t like it.
Make them mini nukes like in Halo Reach beta.
I just want to see the spiker and incendiary return.

I have to agree more with Sub ZeroX7 here. I prefer Halo 5 splinter. That said, I would still like to see it changed. I like the idea of it, as in it could be area of denial type grenade. If it was me I’d make it so the splinters linger longer, maybe a few more of them and a bit wider area (not a lot) but they would only strip you of your Shields, they would do no Heath damage. They would still disabled vehicles as well.
As far as how many grenades one can have and carry. I’ve actually been thinking it should be a Max of 4 total in any combination. So maybe you have 4 UNSC grenades, or 3 plasmas and 1 splinter and so on. I think that would be interesting. I’ve also wondered if we should be able to pick up or drop grenades that we have. Mind you this would only be relevant if you went to the system I suggested i think and there was more types of grenades to pick up in general.
As far as other type of grenades go, I would like an EMP type grenade but that’s how I would make the Splinter one. I like the idea of the fire, napalm whatever, grenade being back too. The Brute spiker grenade should be back or form of it. If Spartan abilities and Sprint are back, I would like some type of grenade that disables these abilities for a temporary amount of time. Kind of like what you saw a Spartan Lock use in the one Halo 5 cinematic cutscene.

Main thing I don’t like about the H5 splinter is it can completely kill you even though the initial blast doesn’t anymore. I like your idea of only affecting shields, that’s interesting.

I hear ya, and I think that is what most people didn’t like…and thanks. Myself and quite a few others were pushing hard to try that idea during the weapons tuning update. I just really see it as a pure area of denial type grenade. You use it and the opposition has to decide, do I risk going through and being one shot? Or do I go around? It becomes a risk reward type thing you know. I would only have one spawn in a spot and not two together as well. In-game types like CTF, I see it as something you actually go out of your way to get. Kind of like a power weapon. Anyways, that’s my thinking behind it.
Id like to see the spike & incin grenade from H3 return. Not sure why they ever got removed in the 1st place. Same with the flamethrower from H3, that should come back too.

This could work as we are probs gonna be fighting banished, mainly brutes and we know that brutes favoured spike grenades and fire grenades
As long their are not like nukes everything will be ok
My opinion is I want the grenades from Halo 3. Brute spike thingy, Molotov thingy (beam grenade), the good old frag and of course the plasma, that’s it simple. Also the H5 splinter was horrid, not discrediting any of you. But it wasn’t the animation or idea that was horrid, it was the power of it and how common it was. In competitive seconds before dying half the players in the community would cheese with it and drop it, plus they were all over the map. Oppositely, in H4 this grenade was useless. I’ve said this before, simplicity is key.

Youtube might have some more beta footage. I just remember how people threw them like crazy and armor lock sometimes saved you from a whole barrage of grenades. Grenades as many other stuff were then nerfed to the final game.

I would like a needle grenade please. To be clear, I do not mean the spike grenade. I mean a grenade that not only flings shards out but they bounce off the wall and if you’re close enough to the initial explosion, enough shards might hit you to cause a super combine. Doesnt have to stick, nor do the shards need to do a lot of damage on their own.

H4 pulse grenade felt useless. Splinter atleast has an EMP effect and is a little harder to notice.
