Grenades: Worst feature in Halo Reach

I’m not trying to YOINK! or complain, but has anyone notice that the grenades in Reach are overpowered compared to Halo 3? I find myself getting killed by grenades more that getting killed by anything else that exist in the game. It’s gotten so annoying in fact, that it makes me want to say, “Halo 3 grenades were perfect. Why did Bungie have to YOINK! it up?!” can any one agree with me that grenades are overpowered in Reach or feel the same way as me?

If they’re would be another title update, it would have to NERF THE YOINKING! GRENADES!!

By the way people who say that there’s another topic like this, you can YOINK! off.

You are so 2010.

Yes, Many find them to have an overly large blast radius in relation to the movement speed and jump height. Also, something to note: they actually do only marginally more damage than H3 Nades (from a direct hit), it’s just that the blast radius is huge and the players aren’t very nimble.

Also, simply implementing 110 Jump, 110 Speed, and 150 Gravity makes nades pretty bearable. That coupled with 110 Damage resistance makes them pretty much H3 nades that are just softer and heavier (their lack of bounce and how they stick to the ground). Another title update isn’t going to happen, but upped movement settings is worth asking 343 to test in the next beta playlist.

Yeah they do too much damage.Reach is simply bad all around. Fall damage, health, AA’s, Bloom, bad maps, the grenades just add to all the frustration.

It has been said thousands of times (literally). You are preaching to the choir.

Just noticed the grenades are overpowered did we? Someones late to the party…

those nades would be a little more tolerable if we SPARTANS could JUMP like they SHOULD

I don’t think this is news to anyone, but I can empathize with voicing your frustration. I doubt anything will come of it but perhaps the majority can influence 343 to make some well needed modifications.

I think it’s more becasue of the movement speed, that has to do with it. Remember is Halo 3 we ran faster. Which means we can get away from the grenades quicker. But in Reach we have the decreased movement speed. Which means it takes longer to get away from a grenade.

Grenades are just apart of war and we all have to get used to it. I know it’s a game but we just have to deal with it, being that grenades are a strong asset to any soldier with a tactical purpose.

In b4 “It’s the way Bungie made the game get over it”.

edit: -Yoink!-…

Honestly I find it about the same in terms of damage. The only difference I noticed with grenades is the “spam” speed, considering how people use nades, in my opinion, spam is a good word for it.

The grenades also sound too powerful. Like how they leave your player sort of “deaf” for a few seconds? I really hate that. This isn’t modern Call of Duty warfare, we don’t need crap realism like that.

Mistakes like Reach make me so much more excited for Halo 4. The grenades are just another terrible feature in the game.

You guys need to realise that grenades like what ‘A bare man pig’ said, make up the standard equipment that soldiers would carry whether we like it or not, the fact how they make go “deaf” when the go off somewhere near you, makes you alert and suspecting that either someone is near or someone has got you in their sights, the grenades in halo 3, where damage is concerned they may have been weaker but is that because we are Spartan II’s in H3 compared to reaches Spartan III’s. You guys need to learn that grenades are just part of the game and they always have been, and i tested the difference in grenades in h3 to this one in halo 3 a grenade that directly hits you takes your shields away then it takes 2 head shots to kill you, in reach a single grenade that has the same affect hits you takes a small bit of shield away then wipes the shield away with the blast then it takes a head shot to kill you. You are now thinking why is he contradicting himself? I am really not i am asking you why are you so upset by the fact that the grenade takes your PROTECTIVE shield down allowing for A HEAD SHOT to kill you, this is good because you are not a tank Spartan II in reach like i said before you are a Spartan III this breed of Spartans were designed for team combat, you know “united we are strong”. Reach plays on this Be a Lone wolf and you have a lower chance of survivability but together you can survive, to go with what im saying you can have sprint and be hit by a frag then the guy with you can start peppering the guy who tossed it with his Ar or DMR either preventing him from zooming in, and headshotting you or it will making him change target to your fully shielded buddy, whilst you recover your sheilds then ultimately take him down.

I’m sure someone has already pointed this out, but it’s not so much that grenades are overpower, it is that movement speed and jump height suck in Halo Reach, so it is much harder to avoid grenade damage. They may be more powerful as well, but the fact it’s nearly impossible to avoid their damage by jumping or strafing away is my biggest complaint with grenades:

grenades were this strong in Halo: CE (or at least they seemed) and this game is before then, so chronologically it makes sense for them to do that much damage, and why we can’t jump as high as H3 is because we are playing as Spartan IIIs not Spartan IIs, the 3s are weaker than the 2s because of the limited training etc.

I feel your pain. This is a First Person Shooter, not a First Person Grenade Spammer.

Best solution? Either play Arena or stick with Halo 3. At least with Arena, everyone spawns with one frag, so the grenade spamming isn’t as bad as in other playlists.

Grenade Launcher.

Shouldn’t standard grenads have a 3 second duration? Pull the pin and 3 sec till explosion. Sometimes it feels like they blow up as soon as they leave my hand.

Info dump: They are not any more powerful than halo 3, the difference is that damage radius tapers off over a wider area whereas in H3 damage radius just ended very suddenly at a certain distance. H3 system did not make much sense really. its a grenade, the shrapnel does not stop flying at drop to the floor at precisely 10 feet.

Also movement speed is the same, but Reach has a wider FOV than H3 so it might look onscreen like you move slower, but you arnt. And you can see more. Inertia is slightly higher though granted.

I personally like the grenades when it comes to sticky situations like 4 on 1 assualt, but I can agree that yoinks from grenades are annoying but you have to get used it.
