Grenades......make it stop

Let me start by saying, I mostly love this game, and I’ll be playing it for a while to come because I’m a huge Halo fan.

But for the love of Christ and all that is good in the world, can you please do something about the damn grenades? I mean I’m pretty sure that like 60% of my deaths are to these little balls of death that are everywhere on the map, respawn nonstop, and are tossed about by the general population of the game as seemingly their first, last, and only choice of defence. I wanna play Halo, not dodgeball with grenades.

I would seriously like to know how anyone who playtested this game could have signed off on these grenades. I play this game with a lot of people. Every single person I have ever been grouped with rages about the amount of grenades constantly flying at their face. It simply isn’t fun to constantly die to explosions all around you. It’s a shooter. A SHOOTER. I want to be in gunfights against players.

Ironically enough, Warzone, the supposedly chaotic game mode, feels far more civilised in terms of grenade usage because the maps are so big and the action so spread out that many players will of course be rid of their grenades before you ever encounter them (unless you’re defending a base), but in the small arena maps…lord have mercy. There are enough explosions per square inch here to make even Michael Bay jealous.

Way I see it this could be fixed in a number of ways.

  1. Give everyone only a single grenade to spawn in Arena and increase spawn time moderately.
  2. Keep two grenades to start, but increase the spawn time drastically.
  3. Nerf the -Yoink- out of grenades.

It’s so frustrating, because the grenades were my biggest complaint with the beta too, and nothing seems to have changed there.

You’re also turning off new people to the game. I’ve played so many matches now with friends who were never all that into Halo, but really want to give this game a chance. You know what they all call it? Grenade simulator 2015. And the worst part is, I can’t even disagree, because I’m too busy shouting into the mic about how I just spawned and have 4 grenades flying in my direction.

Grenades are very much a major part of Halo 4 vs 4. For that reason, I rarely play the 4 vs 4. I normally play Big Team Slayer on big maps. For this game that mode is Warzone. That is what you should be playing. They will not be nerfing the grenades.Warzone is a lot of fun but you do have to play a few games to get the hang of it.

My suggestion would be to still allow people to spawn with 2 grenades but not allow them to be picked up after you use them (however, you could still replenish them at REQ stations)

This would make your only two grenades more important and force you to use them more carefully.

Someone never played Halo 2, the King of all grenade spamming

There are TONS of grenades in Warzone

Hell Warzone Assault is the worst mode for nade spam :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t mind nade spam though tbh its halo tradition

GRENADES

MELEES

GUNPLAY

that’s the holy trinity of halo, you ignorant noob, amazingly 343 actually manage to balance them this time around (halo 4 was -Yoink- limited in terms of balance) stop whining and learn to use evade you daft noob.

Now that I think about it, you’re right there’s too many granades in the maps

If you use your head you can keep your deaths of them at a minimum. most of the time I get killed by a gun of some type. on occassion a grenade when I have backed myself into a corner and didn’t see it coming. really not an issue. Its nothing compared to 4 vs 4.

Grenades in this game are no where near as much of a threat as halo 2 or even halo 3 because you have more tools in your arsenal to evade them. The thruster pack should be utilized during these altercations.

With 4 vs 4, you are on really small maps in confined areas so there is no escape most of the time. At least thats been my experience. Warzone is out in the open on huge maps. You are not stuck in a hall way type area with little room to move. And somebody always ALWAYS has grenades. so it seems there is a constant barrage of them.

Yes, thanks, I’ve played every Halo. I’m quite well aware that grenades have always been a huge part of the game, however, it’s also the part of the game I’ve always liked least, and I feel they’re particularly abundant here in Halo 5. So while I find the whole “nades are awesome u ignorant fool, learn to evade, #get1337” all very charming and inspiring, I don’t see why a legitimate discussion can’t be had about whether grenades really need to be this big a part of the game.

Hey play nice. He sounds new to the series.

I absolutely sucked at throwing grenades in this game compared to the other Halo games, seems off for some reason.

I agree I’ve played all the halos and I think these nades need a small nerf.

Honestly they need a smaller blast radius. Like i should be able to thrust past the radius of it. Even when i get the max distance away i still get half my shields taken off. Then comes the rest of the entire teams grenades.

It’s classic Halo. I see a red dot heading toward me from outside a building, I’ll throw a grenade just inside the entrance and if my timing was right, I get a quick kill.

Grenade
Mellee
Gunplay
A holy trinity?
Who was spouting that bs meme back in the day?
Grenades have always been trash. Well, frags more specifically. Other varients gave grenades life and made them points of interests whereas frags were just the ever-annoying, damaging flashbangs to the series which only good use was for speedrunners and getting out of maps.
Replace grenades with vehicles and you have something a lot better for a holy trinity.

I’ve been frustrated with grenades since… well Halo: Combat Evolved. But I accept that they’re just a part of core gameplay (guns, melee, grenades; the “golden triangle”). You’ve just gotta adapt, plain and simple.

The only time grenades were unbalanced in the history of Halo was during the Reach beta.
