Every fire fight starts with 4 random grenades coming out of nowhere and ends with 4 random grenades coming out of nowhere. I’ve had fire fights were I was seen for half a second in the open and then I can count as 8 grenades come flooding from every direction.
Respectfully disagree on this one. Grenades are an essential part of the Halo experience for me, and i think they really nailed the feeling of the frags at least.
I’m with GoblinPop. Disagree.
If anything they are a bit on the weak side. But I can live with the balance they have now, at least they don’t feel as weak as the last few entries.
Timing your grenades and the headshot, or that last ditch grenade drop to get a beyond the grave is essential Halo.
The one thing I am not sure I am sold on is the grenade throw curve. It is not awful, but different. May just need some getting used to.
I don’t disagree with what you guys are saying, compared to other halo games there are way too many grenades flying around the map. It might be do to how they have more open map design or something else, but there are literally grenades going off constantly in games.
You should of seen old Halo 2…
Honestly you have an influx of people testing stuff out and different play styles adapting to the new game loop. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. It feels okay to me.
They at least don’t feel useless which would be far worse.
Grenades are essential to most fps games. Yes there are at least 8 nades being thrown at me in a firefight. I like how they created the energy and kinetic damage system it gives the nades uses. So having a frag land next to you isn’t as scary anymore. The best way in my opinion to combat this is to keep moving, they have put a lot of emphasis on having high momentum as you scan the map for targets. But if your fighting a 4 stack that’s sticking together well that’s tuff, repulsors knock the nades back and drop walls shield you. So it seems much more tactful than previous Halo’s.
I like how more realistic the grenades are. Even looking up you can’t haiL mary the grenades anymore. More realistic with the throws. But I think they could use a lil
more strength/power behind them. Proper placement of the grenades do a lot and are necessary!!
Maybe I am still trying to get used to the grenades in this game and I know how essential they are. Maybe I think they are too bouncy? like frags bounce pretty far. It could be map design where for example “live fire” everyone throws grenades on start down the hallway.
i also think they’re a little too bouncy:/
Honestly, it’s pretty bad. It has sort of sucked the fun out of the game for me. There was much less of it in the first play test. I had a lot more fun and less frustrating moments in the first play test than this second test. I think part of it is the influx of players but also the radar change. The radar change has had an impact on the way these maps play. Bazaar was pretty mediocre before, now it’s just terrible.
I think they nailed the feeling and availability of grenades. The graphics of them exploding leave a lot to be desired. Reminds me of classic DOOM explosions.
Grenades are pretty much balanced in my opinion as they don’t 1 shot you at full health and you can dodge them easily. Overall, no buff/nerf needed for grenades.
I agree I’ve played halo since I was a kid, and I’ve never seen this many grenades being thrown they need to town it down in my opinion. Literally every fight starts with grenades or ends with them they may be integral to halo, but this feels over the top.
I think a lot of the people disagreeing are missing the point of OP’s meaning. They don’t want grenades nerfed, they want less grenade spam. I agree there are too many grenades being thrown. The power of the grenades is fine, that doesn’t need a tweak. I think everyone should spawn with 1 grenade instead of 2. It would make using that grenade more meaningful since it’s your only one. Additionally, it would reduce the amount of grenade spamming since that seems to be the go-to this tech test. Imo, don’t touch the power of the grenades, just reduce the overall amount available at the start. More gunfighting, less grenade-spamming as a crutch. I can’t even count how many times I am in a building and 5-6 grenades are launched into the entry way of a building/door. Just seems a bit overkill on the amount of grenades flying in each fight.
None of this has to do with nade spamming. The reason people are hating on nades is because the range that nades are damaging is increased from other titles. I was even watch Unyshek play last night on his stream. There was a specific time where he was around a corner and a nade killed him and the look on his face, he said “I’m… not quite sure how that nade killed me”. This happened over and over to me in games. Nades going far past me but somehow still doing damage. Couple that with smaller maps and how many boxed up rooms there are. Spamming is going to happen. Nades are CRUCIAL to Halo, but the range in which damage is being done by them needs to be decreased to match other halos. That’ll prevent the super spam and people will start using them tactically like before.

Kinda funny my friends and I were joking around earlier today, it seems that the nades have a larger blast radius than the rocket does. Which is kinda umm “cough” sad…

I think it more so has to do with the limited radar as a small factor.
