Grenade Warning System

What are your feelings on this?

Personally I hate it. However I can’t tell if it’s just because I don’t know how to read it correctly or what.

I don’t really play other shooters so I have no experience with this system in other games. First of all I feel like it’s a distraction. I have enough other BS flying around on the screen, warning sounds, flashing lights… I don’t need another indicator surrounding the targeting reticule.

Second I really have no clue wtf the thing is doing. Most of the time I either still get killed by the grenade or I end up moving closer to it and getting myself killed. Or I’ve been stuck and I just didn’t realize it.

Third I think it causes me to panic. Sometimes you have nowhere to go to even escape a grenade or if you do, you’ll die anyway. SOmetimes the best thing to do is stand your ground and keep shooting. Maybe you’ll get a kill before you die. However this warning thing often causes me to react when I really should just stay put.

The grenade indicator is one of my favorite additions to the game. You will get used to the indicator and then it will get a lot better. I usually just look past it when I’m playing.

Hate the grenade indicator. Just another way these guys are catering to the noobs and casuals. No other Halo game had this, so why add it in? Probably because too many lower skilled players complained that they were blowing up and never knew a grenade was coming.

in my way of looking at it;

the UNSC want their Spartans to be as efficient as they can be, so they made the armor to HELP the spartan during combat

jus’ sayin

I better just get the “It’s evolution, it’s 2012!” out of the way.

It’s just yet another feature ripped from nearly every military shooter clone to cater to that market.

Due to loadouts and spawning with Multiple grenades, the grenade indicator made sense. The fact that the past halos didn’t have it made no sense. I find it pretty helpful to know where the grenades are so I don’t end up with lame deaths.

Can they confuse the player? Yes, but that a point of view, I can confuse my enemies and keep them from charging me because they see a grenade in their path.

Is it necessary? Nope, but it’s just a nice thing to have.

343i is just full of conformists is all. They make what makes money because the publisher tells them to. I wish I was lying.

Grenade spamming was a problem in Reach, glad they added this so you don’t die easy deaths from noobs going “oh crap he’s going to kill me, grenade spam!”

> Just another way these guys are catering to the noobs and casuals.

Well, perhaps. On one hand it makes grenades easier to dodge. On the other, it forces players to be more thoughtful with their grenade spam, and it is yet another mechanic that discourages over-reliance on grenades. It could be argued to be more competitive.

All this indicator does is allow you to dodge lazily thrown grenades. You can’t dodge a precise grenade, indicator or no indicator.

I like it, but wouldn’t miss it too much if it was removed.

I’d agree most changes in Halo 4 are bad, but not all of them are.

“343i is just full of conformists is all. They make what makes money because the publisher tells them to. I wish I was lying”.

I wish you were too.

“Well, perhaps. On one hand it makes grenades easier to dodge. On the other, it forces players to be more thoughtful with their grenade spam, and it is yet another mechanic that discourages over-reliance on grenades. It could be argued to be more competitive”.

I disagree. It seems like it could be more competitive, but then it gets rid of all the skill or perception involved in dodging those nades.

Hate to say it but it is definitely a bad, no-skill change.

> I disagree. It seems like it could be more competitive, but then it gets rid of all the skill or perception involved in dodging those nades.

I would argue that SPRINT and THRUSTER PACK are what do that.

> …No other Halo game had this, so why add it in?..

Back on the old Bungie Forums, almost everyone and his or her dog seemed to complain about nades in Halo Reach. So, as nades are a part of Halo and here to stay, the grenade indicator is the end result of all those complaints. There was nothing wrong with the nades in Halo Reach and nothing wrong with them in Halo 4.

Similarly, people complained about AC in Halo Reach on the Bungie forums. Now you have PV to counter it. Now people complain about PV.

People complained about no BR in Halo Reach and complained about the DMR being not good enough. Now we have the BR and DMR and people still complain. Fact is, well before game launch, 343i explained what differences there would be between the BR and DMR, there was no surprise post-launch on how the two are used, yet, ppl complain.

People back on Bungie wanted Evade gone and it went because the majority wanted it gone. On the other hand, it was about equal as to whether or not AC should go,so it stayed. It was about equal on the Bungie forums as to whether or not AAs should stay.so, they remained with additions.

Back on Bungie forums, lots complained about Bloom and the list of other complaints went on and on. Now,a number of Bungie employees, such as Frankie, came to 343i. What do we find now? A lot of the complaints were read, evaluated and acted upon. This shows that 343i was listening well before Halo 4 saw the light of day.

Back OT, the grenade indicator, like so much else, is a result of people complaining. So people, you sometimes get what you asked for and, that is not always good.

I don’t see how its useful as the fuses are quite short, and a 2d threat indicator of something that is in 3d isn’t useful either.

I’d prefer it come up when it touches/bounces off the ground, not when it’s flying past me…

Doesn’t belong in Halo.

Caters to noobs.

Next question

I dont even notice it really…

Thanks for the good reply and good read bro! I was never one to really check forums back then especially on Reach so I had no idea, but I figured the complaining was the case for the addition, and again I think these guys are just catering to the lower-skilled tiered players since they will be on this game a lot longer than the competitive folk like myself.

I would have loved it more if it was showing a waypoint on the granade, like happens in Battlefield 3. At least you would understand “where” the granade is, and not just see it around you without any useful information.

I not like but i can acept it. Isnt the worst s**t on the game.
