Grenade Pickup Mechanic Needs Work!!

I found that walking over a dead corpse for example gives you the option of picking up grenades and sometimes you want to just pick up a weapon instead. This breaks gameplay and can be frustrating.

1 should always be frag, in standard gamemodes.

Agreed. For the other, have plasma grenades on 50% of maps and 25% and 25% on other maps for the other grenades.

That, or let people have more than two types of grenades. Halo 3, 4, and 5 did it, so why not Infinite?

Well in matchmaking in H3 even if there was an option to hold more than two grenades, there was only two grenade types on maps. I agree with what you’re saying though. Heck, even Halo 2 and 3 you could carry up to 8 grenades(Halo 2 in campaign and MP, and Halo 3 in campaign and MP but there were only two grenade types that spawned in MP maps). Regardless, grenades should NOT be a pick up option. I feel like having 8 grenades at a time in MP is a little OP though.

Have a feeling this game is too far in development to make these changes. Hope I’m wrong though.

No, in H5 there were frag, plasma, and splinter grenades all together in a decent number of maps as well. Two examples are Plaza and Coliseum, and those are 2 out of the 3 most common maps.

I forget about 5, but yes again regardless grenades shouldn’t be a pickup item.

Also I changed the title of the thread.

The biggest thing for me is the HUD, and the way it’s laid out. It needs to go back to Halo 1,2,3. Weapon top right, grenades and equipment top left, motion tracker (not radar!) Bottom left.

And please change the way the grenades are shown in HUD, so not just one at a time, but more like previous games, makes it easier to see what grenade you have equipped and what’s next.

Also, why don’t grenades have any physics now? You can’t grenade jump?!? The same for gravity hammer, they needs physics applied to everything!!

because then there’s grenade spam. i disagree with op. this is probably the best thing to come to halo.

Yet, again… another innovation that divides the community. No surprise. Instead of having more than two grenade types to be used in MP, have no more than two grenade types on the map period(like Halo 3). I couldn’t stand walking over a weapon and having an option to pick up grenades overlap it.

I can’t imagine these things would be that hard to implement.

I think it maybe was to add another layer of keeping track of what equipment you have on you instead of just picking everything up and going nuts. I also have a feeling that they maybe made the decision to make it you hold two grenades so it could help against grenade spam, not to mention out of the ones we’ve seen two of the three are sticky grenades. It won’t completely resolve it, but it may help how much it happens. Either way I’m fine if they keep it at two, if they decide you can do three that’s fine too.

There wasn’t much spamming in Halo 3 MP with two grenade types and two grenades of each type. Bungie perfected that from the grenade spamming in MP in Halo 2.

Ya it was better compared to Halo 2, but there were more grenade types in Halo 3 to use compared to Halo 2. Also I get spammed with grenades all the time when I play Halo 3 on mcc so it’s definitely there, especially in btb. So you could have in theory six grenades at a time (if they were all on the map) and you could continuously pick up more if there were dead bodies around. If infinite keeps the two grenade types at a time it won’t help much, but may help with spamming just slightly which is why I think the change happened.

In MP there were only two grenade types on maps in H3. It makes pickups difficult when you have equipment, full grenades and weapons with all three of those on the ground next to a dead body. If they are implementing pickups for grenades then again it makes it difficult for players to pick up other things like weapons and equipment which makes the game less smooth imo.

I’d take getting multiple grenades thrown at me than stuggle to pick up weapons. Idk how they can implement it to where they can make weapons more accessible. Or vice verse if I wanna just pick up a grenade and the weapon is overlapping it.

There were frags, plasma and spike grenades in Halo 3 (flame grenades if you count campaign as well). Ya they could maybe tweak the pick up system for grenades maybe but personally I think it should be two still which is just my preference but I don’t care wither way. I’m not trying to argue I was just stating why I think the change was made and yes tweaks can definitely be made.

Oh not tryna argue either man. Yeah there were those grenades in H3 MP but only two types existed on maps at a time(Guardian had frags and plasma, high ground had frags and spikes, pit, valhalla and narrows had frags and plasma). No maps (that I recall) had all three. I’m tryna say this should be the case for Infinite. Not sure about having three types of grenades at once like H5 but it would be better than having grenades as a pickup.

It’s there because they want more than two grenade types at a time, but not let the player hold more than two types of grenades at a time - similar to weapons. Otherwise, you will be running around with 8+ grenades. It’s for balancing, not arbitrary inconvenience. Plus, this system has the added benefit of adding more grenades in the future without the player having an overwhelmingly large inventory of grenades.
