One of my few problems with Halo 5 is the grenade damage and blast radius. The things are so effective people spam them left and right all the time. Granted grenade spam has always been a thing in halo but in previous games (except Halo CE) the grenades really weren’t that powerful. They could be good if you landed a perfect throw but now they have such a big effective blast radius, it’s so easy for an unskilled player to just lob grenades down the hallway or around a corner. This issue is the worst on the smaller maps designed for team slayer and has even caused me to give up on Arena all together. All I’m playing now is Warzone because Arena is full of grenade spam, bad players, and the remakes of midship almost 24/7.
Grenades are fine. Use the thruster.
Nades are fine. Many times positioning causes you to become a victim of grenade spam. Knowing your escape routes and positioning yourself to use them is key. It isn’t always possible though.
I just hate that freaking flash from the nade explosion though lol. I’m already shields down, so do I really need to be blind too? Lol.
nades are not the problem. Their mechanics are unchanged since H1
Nade-shotting is rare in this game. That is when you drop a Grenade + 1 bullet to the head. Too many times I feel as though it takes 2 or 3 more shots after the Nade hits. And the blast radius of the Plasma Grenade is laughable, where you can be on top of the explosion and still have half shields left.
These are just my observations, but they are definitely not as effective as the earlier Halos. Also, if I remember right in either H2 or H3 initially the Nades were similarly too weak and Bungie patched them to be more effective. They should work well against Vehicles as well as give the player consistency in their perspective of landing a Nade on someone followed by a headshot. Balancing this is the tricky part.
I also do not believe limiting players to 1 Frag off spawn is the answer as it brings a frustration since those tactics are a core element on the game.
So in my opinion, there could be tweaks but not a Nerf. I feel like they for one should cause more force to flipping or damaging Vehicles, and two the radius should be made more consistent where shields drop to set up the Nade-shot and only rewards a kill if the shields are completely out when the Nade hits. That’s just how I think it would work the best.
