After months and months of sifting through content one thing as of late has really been bothering me, grenade indicators. I don’t understand why we need them after 4 titles. One of Halo’s staple tactics is a well placed grenade. I feel that this one small addition will make a larger impact on player movement more than most realize. This being just another added HUD element to increase awareness that a veteran player has come by without these luxuries. I already see in playtesting people sitting in corners waiting for nades to clear because they have the ability to detect grenades through walls. Its troublesome to say the least. One mechanic like this can single handedly stop the speed of the game that all of the other mechanics build (If you realize it or not).
Well grenades do explode pretty quickly, so I really doubt that having a grenade indicator will do much to help a player run away from one. I honestly have no problem with the mechanic being in the game.

Pretty much this. The inclusion of the indicators doesn’t seem to actually be of any use considering, by the time you’ve seen the indicator, it’s likely too late. It’s more of a “just so you know, you’re about to explode” type ordeal. I’m fine with it!
it seems as though 343 is making the grenades in halo 4 less of a factor, I personally really this because I’m sick of getting killed just because someone has grenades. I’m not saying that grenades shouldn’t be useful, I’m just saying that you should shoot your gun more than you throw grenades is all.

That was my take at first. But after more time of looking for it, I’ve noticed that the indicators are detecting at absurdly long distances. I’m talking like 2 seconds away. (Keep in mind that movement speed is faster, and everyone has sprint.)

I see that as well. Trust me, I would much rather someone 4 shot me than get a lucky nade in and clean me up with messy bodyshots.
Indicators are there to give the new players a chance at the game.
Those of us who has been playing since CE… Yeah well we know recognize them little hand nukes don’t we?
It’s to help make new gamers more comfortable with the Halo series. I don’t see a problem with it, since in Reach you can practically hear a grenade whizzing through the air around you which is kind of like a grenade indicator. If I get killed by a frag its usually because I was either stuck in a corner, or jumping in the air with no capacity to maneuver.
Lets think for a sec, a Grenade indicator lets you know where a grenade is close by… That doesn’t mean that players will be able to keep from betting killed from them, it just means they’re more likely to know there’s a live grenade, and not a unarmed one at their feet. You can still kill people with grenades, cause you’ll still have the people who see that and go “WTF IS THAT!?”.
I think it’s a very pointless addition and also very pandering towards the Call of Duty audience, but it also seems pretty harmless. In the past grenades have whistled and glowed to give away their position anyway, so I don’t know if a grenade indicator will affect much.
You can use the grenade to divert players to a certain direction, or to a different position. You then flank them on the other side with a shotgun, or use other close-quarters weapons.
Or, you can have 2 people throw grenades, one thrown a few seconds after the other. This way, either way they go, they get a grenade.
Those are a few examples of how this can be good for Halo. The grenade indicator doesnt necessarily hurts gameplay, in fact it opens up more opportunities to preform defensive AND offensive tactics.
This does change gameplay. Those who are smart about tactics can destroy noobs.

Hmmm… never thought of Grenade Indicators this way. but holy Yoink! it does change things! in a good, new way! but minor, as you’ve stated, noobs will now perform different since they know where the nade is coming from, changing tactics to own noobs in a whole new way >:D
> It always made sense for a Spartans visor give you that information seeing as how advanced their technology is.

> However I’ve never needed it’s function in any game, unless you don’t have a big HD TV you’re gonna see grenades easily enough.

> Don’t mind it though, it’s certainly not an annoying thing to have.
although HD definitely does help, the bigger your TV is means the more your eyes will dart around the screen. you’ll be able to react quicker if you have a small HD TV instead of a large one.
