Grenade damage and vehicle health...

…were two things that greatly contributed to “noobifying” Reach and making it feel “un-Halo” like.

Grenades were like nukes in Reach for 3 reasons. First, they had a larger blast radius than in Halo 2 and 3. Second, they killed you if you were within a 10 foot radius and you had less than 75% shields. And third, movement speed was too slow to avoid them most of the time. Halo CE could have nuke grenades because you moved really fast.

All these things combined made the grenade a far less skillful weapon and often resulted in stalemates where a losing player would throw and grenade right before dying and the winning player would not be able to escape because of the 3 factors I stated.

Vehicle health pretty much ruined the vehicle combat in Reach. Don’t get me wrong, it was still fun to play btb heavies but you could never take those matches seriously and it could never be competitive.

Halo 3 and Reach have seen an increase in methods to take down vehicles. To balance this, the vehicle weapons were made stronger to balance it out. This was fair. Halo 3 had a very balanced vehicle sandbox (but just had no good maps to use them on). In Reach, Vehicles were weaker and controlled far worse, several more anti vehicle weapons were added, and vehicles started having health do that they would blow up randomly after taking enough damage from any weapon.

I hope Halo 4 grenades go back to Halo 2 and 3 power and I hope vehicles can’t be destroyed by normal bullets.

To add to this discussion, what the hell blew up the warthog in this clip? It couldn’t have been his grenade since he only got an assist…

Given that grenades cannot be scavenged off dead bodies (not spawn points, mind you,) unless you have the scavenge “perk,” this will make grenades more or less “rare.” Thus I feel that grenades should be grenades, not firecrackers.

Could’ve been hit by a vehicle behind them…

OT: Didn’t they say that the grenade damage was nerfed?

The warthog was pre damaged, that’s my guess. Or maybe Warthogs now have a sweet spot underneath them.

That footage was probably prepped.

Im for frag grenades being reduced in their steroid like power, needs to go back a little more the the halo 3 frag. I felt that the plasma grenade was pretty good the way it was but with a slightly smaller killzone maybe, i was happy with that one. As for vehicle health i think that was a great thing, very realistic, and almost necessary. Can you imagine a reach banshee that didnt take damage and had to be taken out in one go?? Its horifying to me. I dont see why you thinking a vehicle getting hit by a rocket shouldnt dent the vehicles ability to function so long as your shields recharge. Its structure is compromised and that should more than just show aesthetically.

They have never been firecrackers in any game. And I hope they can be scavenged. I think that perk is to allow you to hold extra jades, not spawn with them.

Yeah there should be some vehicle health. But when it runs out, damage from weapons should start damaging the player inside the vehicle, not just blow it up. It should only blow up from explosives.

Id be ok with that as a compromise i suppose

I’m most worried about grenades though. Could be lame

1 Grenade and a lot of BR/AR fire. Probably pre-damaged too.

Please no more vehicles made out of tin foil. XD

JK

Halo 3 grenades were perfect. They had excellent physics, fuse, and damage.

Am I the only one who actually likes vehicle health? D:

I like it too, I just think that the balance was off with some of Reach’s vehicles. Scorpion, Wraith, and Banshee were all fine to me but I think that the light ground vehicles and Falcon could really have done with an armour buff.

Vehicle are like Reach’s, while I both don’t like and like it, it does make sense on a balance/fair point of view, but this is very bad in Reach because all of the vehicles were super weak. Vehicle health for Halo 4 needs to be much more than Reach’s. oh, and a health bar for the Vehicles would be nice too.

for Grenades, they’re clearly not Reach’s (thank God), but they’re weaker than Halo 3’s from the looks of it (I may be wrong there). but I like 3’s Frags because they were more support than an actual weapon while Plasmas were more powerful and seemed like a third weapon, which was balanced. that’s how Halo 4’s needs to be IMO.

I agree with the grenades, Reach’s had a radius that was MUCH too large. Hopefully 343i toned it down a little for Halo 4.
As for vehicle health, I don’t hate it, I actually kind like it. The problem was some vehicles didn’t have enough hit points.

That would be very nice but with reach’s vehicles it was very obvious when it came to vehicle health (flaming banshee).

I agree with the vehicle health, but in Reach the fragmentation grenade couldn’t kill you, even if you were standing on it. I thought the grenades in Reach were the best of all the Halo games but that’s just my opinion.

Pause at 22 seconds also try frame by frame, you have to be really quick but you see another light hit the warthog. Might be a rocket but didn’t seem to have the tail line I’ve seen in other gameplay. Also the rocket hits it directly on the side, so it should do massive damage.

In reach the only vehicles that need a buff are the ghost and falcon. You shouldn’t be able to win a 1v1 against a ghost when you only have a DMR, yet I do it every time I play BTB. Skillful or lucky grenades is the only way you should be able to win it.

I didn’t have a problem with grenades however I mostly BTB, so I never had a problem with grenades in small areas.
