Grenade abundancy and spawning with 2 grenades

From what we’ve seen of halo infinite, were going to spawn with an assault rifle, a pistol, and 2 grenades, so by all means a standard halo loadout, Going back and playing MCC social, 70% of my games are turned into grenade fests where you spawn, throw some grenades, pickup more grenades from the map and 2 more from someone who died, die, respawn and repeat with 2 more grenades. I’m probably in the minority of halo players since i don’t see this brought up much, but grenades are just too abundant in multiplayer

Obviously this depends on the map and game mode you are playing, but most game modes start you out with the standard loadout including 2 grenades. Small maps suffer the most from grenade oversaturation since you can spawn in and throw you’re grenades across the map instantly to where you know where the enemy is at. Without knowing the maps of infinite or the final balancing of grenades, It’s easy to see how the grenade problem with all the other games has a high potential to show up in infinite. With infinite being free to play, new players to the franchise will join in and portably grow to dislike the grenade spam and eventually the game if not balanced properly. There’s many ways to go about it and I’d like to hear input from the community, especially the more hardcore ranked players. I will be listing some solutions i’ve briefly thought of, but please put your thoughts on any solutions of if this is even a problem that most of the community even has. Most likely I’m in the minority here, but I’d love to see how others justify and deal with what I see as an over abundance of grenades.

  1. We can keep spawning with 2 grenades but lower the spawns across the map; either by frequency, amount, or players dropping grenades. This is what seems most reasonable as the standard halo loadout can stay the same and it can be balanced for each map. larger maps can obviously have more grenades, and smaller maps have either less amount or less frequent spawns of grenades.

  2. Change the spawning loadout to having just one grenade. This is my personal favorite option. It keeps whatever spawns for maps are, but emphasizes using the grenades more situationally and resourcefully than just throwing them with no care because it’s so easy to get more. This in combination with the first option would be my personal ideal balance.

  3. Make grenades spawns only. Either you only spawn with 2 grenades and can only pick up special grenades around the map extremely limitedly, or you spawn with no grenades and can only pick them up around the map. I don’t think this is a very good option and most players would not be happy with it, including me, but I’d have to see it in action at least once before I completely rule it out

  4. This one is only sort of related but ideally we should only be able to carry 2 of each grenade at any time no matter what. I think this has been the standard for a while, and from what I’ve seen that’s how it is in infinite, just like to reinforce that idea so that we don’t go all the way back to CE and 2 with being able to carry 4 of each or 8+ grenades in total

Think I just have those grenade spawn problems just in 1 out of 20 games.
Halo 3 / Reach system worked fine, but when I’m right, we have now the hitmarker, of which I’m not a fan at all

This has existed in every Halo game after Halo 2. I feel like the bots had unnatural consistencies with their grenades. This is maybe what you feel this way? I think by following your suggestions you would be taking away a core element for Halo.

  • Spawing with grenadesI hate when i spawn in with my team at the start of a match and someone straight away chucks a grenade at their feet and kills or puts a lot of damage into their own team. Most games a troll or a noob does this and its highly annoying when not even the first minute has gone by and where loosing 3 - 0. I thought a way to fix it. Having no grenades as you spwan first thing a match is the only way to prevent this and it would only be the start of the match upon your next spawn in the game you should spawn back in with your grenades

  • Just frag grenadesOne thing i dont want ever to comeback is halo 4’s loadouts. No one should even be able to spawn with an plasma pistol and sticky grenades because this was too OP against vehicles and made having vehicles redundant because of this ability being way too OP from spwan.

  • Friendly fireOne thing i hope they do in the next flight is enable friendly fire. Since it was turned off your grenades done no damage to your own teammates and this is bad for gameplay. All it did was make people spam grenades without any consequences of teamkilling. Friendly fire makes is good for gameplay and makes people think of there actions more and hopefully this would stop grenades be spammed.

  • Grenade hit markersThis should never be in the game. A grenade shouldn’t act like a radar. Getting hit markes from throwing a grenade into a room to see if someone is there is a horrible gameplay mechanic that should be removed hopefully.

  • Pick upsSo from the first flight we had Frag, Sticky and the spiker grenades. From the trailer there’s one more grenade the bouncing betty electric grenade. If so you can be running around in multiplayer with 8 grenades. Thats too OP. So i hope this new electrical grenade we’ve seen in the trailer is an equipment a new and imporved version of the power drian equipment from H3. Holding 6 grenades is still a bit OP but it all depends if you can pick them up

  • Cycling through grenades This already has forums about it so its more of a reminder. The HUD needs to be improved. I couldnt get used to how you Cycling between different grenades during the flight and because it was too difficult to do so, i just didn’t bother. I didnt even look at that part of the screen. Its too cluttered and needs an improvement. H3 and Halo Reach had the best HUD and a simple way of Cycling between them with left and right on D-pad.
