First of all, I make machinima and use green-screens a lot when making it. In Reach I’d use those shields that sometimes look really bad after keylighting, and Halo 4 I always use the green screen on Forge Islands. That was probably my favorite addition to the game.
However, you can’t keylight (or chroma key, depending on what you use) the green-screen out without getting rid of something else that is green in the picture. Because of this, I believe that it would be really handy if the “green-screens” color were changeable in Guardians. If I want to make machinima in Guardians-and with the beauty of next gen with the nice armors I obviously do-having that simple tool would go a long way for us machinimaters.
Obviously, not everyone makes machinima or even green-screen in their machinimas, and 343i knew that when they were adding that into Halo 4. I’m not in video game programming, so I honestly can’t say this for certain, but I really don’t see having the color change as being something hard to implement for an object that is so simple. I know that in Reach and H2A (I’m not sure about Halo 4) that you are able to change the object’s color under “Team color” in forge. Perhaps it can be changed that way.
I’d like to point out that this is a small thing, but it drastically affects what us machinimaters can do within our machinima. The feature would allow us to make “hybrid machinima”-Various games in a single machinima- and blur the backgrounds much more easily.
Let me know your thoughts on the subject. I doubt many people will care that much about how the game is for machinimaters, but being one I kinda have to.
