Great Idea(s) for another Halo ODST installment

To start off, I’m pretty disappointed in Noble Team. The AIs of Noble Team fight rather sloppy. In this “Halo Reach: ODST” game, you’ll be playing as the same ODST squad, but you’ll be playing through the events of Reach. The last mission of the game will be on the Halo Reach level, New Alexandria, where “The Rookie” escorts Gunnery Sergeant Buck & his men to safety in a Falcon. The end game credits will show scenes explaining how they escaped Reach. So, during this campaign, you’ll be going on more of the offensive, & attacking the Covenant with large platoons of marines down on the ground.
Now you’ll be playing on many Reach levels, but from a different perspective than Noble team. For example, on the Reach mission Exodus, you’ll be fighting the Covenant for a short period of time, then you’ll be escorting civilians to the extraction point for another period of the level. On this level, you’ll run into Noble 6, or see him from far distances fighting. (Since in this game, Noble 6 will be an AI, you’ll get to see him in action himself. He’ll be sprinting, jet-packing, assassinating, & doing the same moves the Spartans in Halo Wars were doing).
On the mission, Tip of The Spear, you’ll be in the huge vehicle battle, fighting the Covenant head on. You’ll actually be driving during that part of the Reach scene, so if you look to your right, you’ll see Kat & 6 in the Warthog next to you. Eventually they’ll move off onto their own mission. There will still be many missions in the city & a few at night, but you’ll be with squads of ODSTs & marines in these. In many, you’ll be in vehicles like Warthogs & Hornets.So now that you see where I’m heading with that, I’ll explain the story kind of.
You’ll be playing as Buck, Mickey, Romeo, Dutch, & the Rookie, along with Dare. You’ll play as each of them to see how they meet each other & all fall into Bucks squad. Basically, their original squads are going to get killed in this game, & their stories will meet. As easter eggs, you’ll see Gunnery Sergeant Stacker, along with Sergeant Johnson & his platoon before they end up at Halo. At one or two points, Sergeant Johnson or Stacker will come to assist, or need assistance from you & your ODSTs.
For gameplay, it’ll be different, because you’ll be playing the campaign in different areas of Reach & also the same areas from the Halo Reach game, but from different perspectives as Noble 6, so you’ll see Noble 6 or Noble team or some Spartans overall, in action. You’ll have every weapon in from every Halo games in this one game, & you’ll be fighting on the streets of the city, as well as moving into the buildings through stairs & elevators, evacuating civilians. Even a mission where you capture an elite, & interrogate (torture) it. Unlike New Mombasa, the streets 7 Highways will be much wider, there will be many civilians, & the game will start on the exact day Covenant Corvettes descend upon the city.
So the first mission would start out with hundreds of UNSC Hornets flying low through the city, with UNSC falcons flying higher through the buildings, & then pelicans overhead at the tops of sky scrapers. You’ll start off as Buck, who is in a Falcon heading for the front lines. The first scene will start with the ships nearing the city & UNSC forces dispersing throughout the city, setting up a perimeter & evacuating civilians. During the scene, Buck is looking down on the city streets, watching the Hornets flying low to the ground, landing with marines ording civilians to evacuate, & patrolling. He’ll then look up to see the UNSC & Police Pelicans, flying to the tops of sky scrapers to set up over watches & anti-air defences.
The scene will end, & your Falcan will fly to the outskirts of the city, where the forest meets futuristic civilian homes. You’ll land in the forest, along with other ODST squads, preparing to intercept incoming scouts. You’ll scout out yourself to a cliffside, & look directly across anothe cliffside, along with your squad. If you look over the edge, there’s a river at the base of both cliffs. The cliff in front of you is elevated, while its sides sink a little. On the cliff is a Jackal with a beam rifle, a few yards to that jackels left & right, are two other jackal snipers, & one more down by the river. This is the training portion of the level. The jackel scouts are positioned as a cross, to check your trageting controls.
After you kill them, the game will freeze & ask if you like those settings. So after you select one, it will begin, & you’ll move out to another ODSTs postion.

So that’s how it starts & ends, & this installment would be pretty cool. You’ll encounter every weapon, enemy, & vehicle, that’s ever been in a Halo game, except for the Flood, & Forerunner weapons & technology. Youll be able to drive every vehicle, including civilian cars, which will move very quickly, & the maps will be even larger. So that’s my idea. I just hate how I’m talking about it like it exists.

I enjoy reach unlike many others so a new campaign on the planet reach would be very fun. Bungie made reach a very good looking world. I’m sure 343 could make it look good if there was an ODST game on reach.

> I enjoy reach unlike many others so a new campaign on the planet reach would be very fun. Bungie made reach a very good looking world.

Indeed

That would make for some sick DLC, and I’d love to see the ODST’s story continue, if at least for more Firefly inspired antics

This is a great idea however at the moment 343 studios are busy with halo 4 alpha coding and ect… and finishing up halo ani. Maybe after halo 4 they can choose a game they want to work on :smiley:

Recently, Halo has had a yearly release since Halo 3. Based on fan feedback, I think 343 is going to extend the game intervals a little so the franchise stays fresh with each release. With that said, I don’t think another ODST game will be in the works for some time.

2011 = Halo Anniversary
2012 = Halo 4
2013 = break year
2014 = likely Halo 2 Anniversary based on fan feedback
2015 = Halo 5
2016 = break year
2017 = first chance at an ODST sequel
2018 = Halo 6

As much as I’d want an ODST sequel it’s going to be some time before we see it happen, but I’m fine with waiting. Personally, I think an ODST prequel would be kind of cool to see each of the squad members in action b4 they all met each other at New Mombasa and have it go deeper into Buck and Dare’s past.

They will not make a halo 2 anniversary they would possibly make a video game based on the book first strike. Halo 2 graphics are fine enough and does not need to be tweaked. I learned enough from halo 2 universe and would like to play what i read in a book.

I’m more surprised that someone hasn’t taken up the ODST game into a prequel book. That seems more realistic right now then a game, unless 343 contracts out to another studio to do it.

Well, Romeo and Dutch’s back stories were told in the comic “Helljumper” that released around the same time as ODST, and the short story “Dirt” from Evolutions featured the Rookie.

Still I agree, some proper backstory to the ODST characters would be nice, especially Buck and Dare.

On Topic: OP, I hope the rookie ODST you are talking about in your description isn’t the same Rookie as the one from Halo 3: ODST. That was the first instance of him and Buck meeting.

there has been so many forums on waypoint about making a game about continuing the odst storyline that they might just make it, a book would make more sense.

That’s how I would assume it goes. MS has already said thay like the idea of Annual Halos, but making completely new games every year would cost to much. Hence spin-offs using roughly the same graphics engine but offering new story and such, say ODST 2/Halo Wars 2/Halo Kinect would make a lot of sense.
Especially since all fans would buy it day one, small investment but big reward.

OnT:
What I would love to see in ODST 2 would be to “hot drop” manually into the combat zone, just like in Section 8: (Prejudice) and maybe land on some unsuspecting enemies ^^
Also it would be great if we got to choose a certain ODST/equipment for each mission, with a weight and size limit to the inventory. Say a big sniper takes more space and hence you can’t take an assault, but take assault and pistol and you can have night-vision and more ammo (something like the old Hidden and Dangerous system). :slight_smile:

Sounds good, Iam not a fan of Spin-Offs, but I don´t hate them either. Iam only disapointed when some companys want to make fast money with them. Luckyly Bungie/Microsoft didn´t. ODST was a good game.

And if there should be an other spin-off, I would love to see ODST 2. (Prequel to ODST,… good idea).

This is a plot, not a GAMING IDEA, that said I don’t like the idea at all. “The Rookie” is the rookie for a reason, he’s a damn rookie, he’s as fresh as it can be to the ODST. Plus having a prequel so early to a series that hasn’t even had two games is a wasteful idea. If anything they should continue the ODST story like it would normally progress, or give us an entirely different squad to work with.

Now on gameplay I hated ODST’s gameplay it felt like a crappy Halo 3 mod, it just wasn’t different enough, it’s as if someone took CoD and combined it with Halo. Thankfully enough the plot and sidestory within it was so good it kept me from returning the game to my local Gamestop. If anything ODST has to feel different, in order to do that it should be Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six, the originals, none of this Vegas and Advanced Warrior crap. Seriously just imagine being this severely underpowered special forces guy facing a giant horde of aliens,with your best weapon being your skills and smarts, not how fast you can hide behind a wall or pull the trigger, which was never the point of an ODST.

Of course this won’t happen because people see the average Halo fan as a person who just love “rooty-tooty point and shooty” games.

If you have any ideas you want to add, it would be great. I want to see there back stories, even “The Rookie”. I know for The Rookie, it wouldn’t make sense, but there could be a mission where you play as him rescuing Buck, so that could be why Buck had him recruited to his squad. If there are already some back stories you already know about Buck, The Rookie, Romeo, Dutch, Dare, & Mickey, please correct me, because I’m just making up a story as I go along here. Really & truly, if possible, I just want this game to play as the original squad, with it briefly showing their back story on Reach. I want you to (if possible) see Sgt. Johnson, Sgt. Stacker, Master Chief, Cortana, Dr. Halsey (Who’s not a -Yoink- in this game), or other Spartans. When you see these characters, they won’t be as “easter eggs”, you’ll actually get to see them in action.
For instance, if you happen to see Noble 6 on the Reach mission Exodus, you’ll be one of those ODSTs that’s helping evacuate the civilians. Eventually, 6 will leave on the Falcon, & your ODST squad will continue with their own mission. I would also not really want to get too deep into Buck & Dare’s relationship. I’d rather have that brief because their story isn’t as romantic (in my opinion) as some would think.I’d rather see actual sacrifice & the marine/ODST AI’s being badasses. If you’ve played Gears of War 2, did you really care about Dominics wife? Because, I didn’t. I didn’t really care until he actually found her, but even when he did, I thought to myself, “So this is the lady you’ve been crying about each game”? Then she dies & I’m thinking, “Dude, that sucks”, but that’s something I forget about instantly after, because I’d rather see the main part of the story.
So I would feel the same way about Halo. I didn’t really care about Sadies story, I just wanted to get through the city , regroup with the squad, & kill the Covenant. I was actually anxious to get the game because an idiot told me that in Halo 3 ODST, you’d get to see Master Chief in action, fighting along side him, watching him doing flips & crap that you see the Spartans in Halo Wars doing. Because I was disappointed in that being a lie, 343 can try to do that in Halo Reach ODST. I really want to see the AIs of marines doing a good job with their guns, & if an enemy gets right next to them, they actually get into a fist fight with a brute. For example, if that were to happen, two marines would drop their weapons & gang up on that one brute/elite. Even better, watching the Spartans do that.
Also, Black Ops had more sacrifice than Reach did. In the very first mission of Black Ops, your character stays behind to stop the Tropas from destroying the plane. Bowman dies & that other guy (I forgot his name) jumps infront of a grenade to save you. In Reach, the only death I felt bad about was Emile, & his was kind of stupid, since Spartans were known to be smart & agile. So in this game, you’re going to see scenes where ODSTs are putting themselves in the line of fire to save civilians, Spartans forcing other Spartans & marines to leave, while they hold off the Covenant heading towards them, fighting their last stand. This would be very very insane. If possible, 343 can make their maps even bigger, because if you haven’t seen the BF3 Caspian Border gameplay trailer, you’ll see that map is big as crap. BF3 stepped up their game.
So for an insanely large map, 343 can make the actualy space battle above Reach in this game (The space battle read in the book, Halo: The Fall of Reach. You’ll see the part where the hundred UNSC ships face an armada of 300 Covenant ships. You’ll see the massive “Cradle” (Repair & Refit) stations sacrifice themselves to give the UNSC frigates, cruisers, & MAC platforms time to reload their cannons. If this were a mission, you’d be an ODST pilotting a Longsword or stationed inside a ship. If there was a mission where you’re in that battle, but you’re in a ship, the mission could end where the ship is getting destroyed, so all the ODST get into pods & launch themselves back to the ground, while the crew take those HEV pods (from Halo CE) back to the ground, then you’ll see the ship explode in that scene. It’d be pretty cool if you see Admiral Michael Stanforth in the Marathon Cruiser, Leviathan. You’ll see the Pillar of Autumn as well. So those won’t really be easter eggs, since all you’d have to do is look out of one of the windows of your ship to see them.

Anyway, I can go on & on, because Ideas are limitless, so you guys might as well add your own ideas for an awesome ODST game.

I see, so you’re one of the “TROLLS” that transferred from Bungie.net to Xbox.com. Do us a favor please, if you’re going to be a smartass, without actually being smart, I suggest you return to Bungie.net, where the rest of the immature youth kongregate. This plot is an idea by the way, & you need ideas for a plot, so lick a butt crack.

WOW BRO, YOU ARE SCATTERED BRAINED AS -Yoink-!

Look bro, sit down and ask yourself the following and organize it as so

1 What is the theme to this new story?

2 What sidestories should be explored, which should be ignored

3 In what manner is the story told? Same Noir feel? Or something entirely different?

4 Whose background stories should be explored?

5 How does the Rookie get introduced (him being a ho hum marine who rescues him could work)

6 What themes from past games could be improved

Also leave cockadoodle of doodie out of this. Different game, different demographic, plus I think it sucks and hasn’t been good since CoD3. But that’s a discussion for another board or maybe even forum all together.
