Great for Esports , Terrible for Casuals

Hello I am ManSlayar former semi professional player for MLG.

Now that you know my background I will give some feedback on the game and ultimately why I believe it will follow Halo 5’s trajectory , ultimately being a graveyard casual player base but an active competitive scene. So you do not think I hate the game entirely I will start with the pros before the cons.

PROS

  • Movement has been updated to play like a modern shooter
  • Graphics are nice and it runs very smooth on my Xbox Series S
  • Free to play
  • Great for Esports Competitors
  • Fun if you love competing

Cons

  • Only Designed for competitive play
  • TTK (Time to kill) is way too long
  • Weapons are not named properly , please remove the gimmicky names, Spangler , Bullfrog. Rocket Launcher and shotgun will suffice.
  • Abilities are not necessary with an already fast paced game.
  • Sweats will maul any casual and deter them from playing
  • Casuals will leave quickly due to confusion.

Summary -
Halo has pleased its die hard esports fans , but alienated their casual player base. Arena shooters are dwindling out , the more stakes the more interesting the game. Run die respawn is no longer the recipe for success especially when you are getting mauled because you don’t know what half the weapons do. I strictly kept this to gameplay , you will spend more time trying to learn the game , than having fun with it. As a casual now , the barrier of entry to have fun is too high , You will have to sacrifice 4-6 hours of your day , learning maps, guns , abilities, power ups, all while getting mauled. Game upon entry is too confusing , most casual players will leave.

This is my biggest complaint with the game, casual play has been left behind in favor of pursuing an e-sports foothold.

The gameplay is solid, and enjoyable but certain mechanics in place & how they work in the sandbox feel like the priority was PC & competitive as oppose to building social systems to keep people engaged such as legacy Halo titles have done so before

Funny enough, I don’t think it’s great for either. I guess if you like this run and gun low ttk 2v1 fps, but it doesn’t even have IBMM for 4 stacks in arena. So you can just solo/duo if you want a competitive match but then you spend most of the game getting smacked in the back of the head.

But your point definitely stands, I cannot understand how casual fans would enjoy this game except to grind for armor unlocks (that they can’t even get)
