I was watching the Halo 2 Anniversary Terminals and I was ecstatic to see Jai-006 of Gray Team. It was cool to see him take on Thel Vadam also. I was confused however, to notice that Jai’s armor has thruster/power packs very similar to GEN2 MJONIR, and his helmet resembled a fusion of Recruit and Mark V**. http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20141116202300/halo/images/8/8c/H2A_Terminals_Jai_vs_Thel.jpg**
This confused me since I’ve seen a picture of one of a member of Gray Team from The Cole Protocol and in that they were wearing Mark IV. How could they have gotten GEN2 armor if they hadn’t been in contact with the UNSC for years? Also a side question, but when did Gray Team encounter Thel Vadam, I don’t remember it being mentioned.
Mark IV armor did look like a fusion of Recuit and Mark V**, look at the cover of The Cole Protocol for reference. Also featured in the Cole Protocol is Grey Team, who did have a physical encounter with Thel near the end of the book. The terminals just depicted a scene that was first written years ago, I can’t recall the exact chapter but it was definitely near the end of the book.**

Ok the helmet and Thel encounter make sense but what about the thruster packs on the back of Jai’s armor? I’m guessing it could just be the same thing that happened with the Halo 4 Prolouge cinematic, the battle was canon but the armor used was not. Kinda disappointing if this is true, I would love to see Gray Team with GEN2.

What Thruster packs? I re-watched the terminal again just to check and I didn’t see a thruster packs on him.
Thel fought a member of Grey Team while on the Kig-Yar ship during the near end of the book.

You don’t see him use them but if you look you can see these two big tube like things similar to thruster/power packs that GEN2 MJOLNIR has and doesn’t appear on the cover of Cole Protocol.

Those aren’t thrusters. I’m not sure what those are called, I think they’re shield emitters. The Mk IV master chief has them (Not as large) I think almost all of the Mjolnir armors have those on the back.

Ah ok I honestly was just sorta guessing
But anyways the armor shown on the cover of The Cole Protocol doesn’t seem to have these.
And last time I checked, Mark IV MJOLNIR didn’t have shields. So I’m still wondering if it was an art mess up or Gray Team got GEN2. I’m assuming the former.

Everything looks good to me except the back.
Am I seriously the only one that sees the big tube shaped things on Jai’s back in this (on both sides of his head)-

And not on the cover of The Cole Protocol? Because right now I just feel like I’m seeing things.

That’s a part of his armor and not thruster packs or anything. It looks just teh same as Cole Protocol cover.
If this is considered anything but artistic liberties by 343 then I fear they have a few very bad writers on their behalf. I still disrespect their decision to consider my favourite armour set in all of Halo (Mark V CLASSIC) to be non-canon along with all the other simple and elegant designs of Halo CE-2.
It’s definitely a mix of GEN2 and the Cole Protocol cover rather than the latter alone. Not sure why they couldn’t have just gone without the GEN2 traits, same with Linda’s and Fred’s armor.

The Mark IV armor didn’t have energy shields.

Mark V is non canon? When the hell did 343 say this? If that’s true than I’m calling bs on 343.

Mark V original is cannon. But i think he is talking the Halo :CE original (not anniversary ) no longer cannon. For the original was replaced by the Anniversary

Ah ok thanks for the clarification. I haven’t seen the differences between the two so I’ll have to find that.

Which is -Yoinking!- bull–Yoink-. The suit I have come to know and love for 11-12 years, with countless sketches and early Halo media I own of the original suit is now considered to never have existed, replaced with cheap looking knock-off that 343 pulled out of their -Yoinks!- at the last minute. Yeah, -Yoink- off with that.

What? The CEA version of the Mark V looks exactly like the original but with added graphical fidelity. They didn’t change the design at all.
