Gravity Hammer's alternate melee

Can the Gravity Hammer’s weaker melee be changed so that it has a different animation that is quicker than the normal gravity swing, as is the case in every other game in which the Gravity Hammer is useable?

I’ve always thought something like the flag melee would be appropriate. Not sure that the hammer needs a buff as small as it would be.

Ah, well, it is not really a buff, is it? It’s just implementing what seems to be a missing aspect of the Gravity Hammer in Infinite, one that has been present in every other game since Halo 3.

I guess they could just use the flag animations, but I personally would prefer that they used Halo Reach’s hammer animations as inspiration. That game had a pretty nice one that I’d like to see again, or something similar to it.

It’s a small buff compared to how it is now but it’s probably negligible. The sword would still be better.

I can’t really remember past animation but I think smashing people with the end of the handle for a quicker melee would look cool and logically it makes sense. Moving the huge hammer head around is slow so jabbing with the handle should be faster.

I suppose it could be considered a buff, although I’m not trying to make it better than the sword or anything. I just want the Gravity Hammer to be…’complete’.

Thrusting the hammer’s handle to hit enemies is exactly what the melee is in the previous games! And of course, since most weapons have two melee animations, the second one in ODST is a hit with the bladed part of the hammer’s head, while the one in Reach is some kind of spin.

Adding in the faster regular melee could be considered a buff, but it’s not really that big since it’s just bringing it on par with every single weapon with regular melee. They should do this for the sword too. It doesn’t have a faster regular melee either. This is something that has been a part of how these weapons work since Halo 3. Bringing it back will just help to create a skill level to these weapons that take very little skill currently.

That’s pretty much what I’ve been trying to say, haha. The hammer has a normal melee in all the other games, so Infinite’s version using the exact same animation as the main gravity swing with the slow wind up makes it seem unfinished somehow.

I’m not certain, but doesn’t the swords normal melee recover a little bit quicker than the main attack?

They said they intended to ad this over a year ago.

The sword has also always had a quicker regular melee that didn’t have the increased lunge range, but currently no the regular melee for the sword does not swing faster like it always has. Both the hammer and the sword currently are without alternate melees.

Huh. I didn’t even realise the sword’s normal melee wasn’t any different. That’s a shame. To be honest, I think the sword actually looks a little unfinished too, mostly in its textures. At least, I think it’s the textures. Sound effects for equipping the sword and swinging it are also really underwhelming, not to mention very quiet.

By the way, do you think I should make a ticket to Support about the hammer and maybe the sword too? Since 343 are apparently so uninterested in their own forums that they’re shutting them down, it’s unlikely this post by itself will draw their attention to the situation.

Might as well. They’ll probably respond with that’s not a current issue or problem and everything is working as designed. They might pass along the message though.
