graveminds

how are they “made”

in CEA keys is a proto-gravemind and a giant blob basically however in H2 he’s a giant plant not looking anything flood like at all (at times when speaking he does look like chiefs helmet tho!)

Out of a lot of biomass.

Though I always got the sense that a “Gravemind” was as much the collective as a whole as it was the actual physical hub.

That’s more just Halo 2 having a different visual style than Halo 1. I actually don’t think any of the Flood stuff in the rest of the series looks much like Halo 1’s Flood.

The reason they look different is that the CE/A one is a Proto-Gravemind. The one in Halo 2 is a fully developed Gravemind. The Proto is still gathering a lot of materials (biomass and intelligent life forms). The Gravemind has already consumed what it needs and grew to its full size and shape.

And as said before, the Gravemind forms are made up of lots of biomass and intelligent life forms. The Proto Gravemind in CE/A was made in the Truth and Reconciliation’s bridge so it could use the sentients it has gathered, and pilot the ship to the Flood’s desire. Don’t forget the Gravemind in Halo 2 had been there for a very long time. It has had plenty of time to grow, evolve, and do a bunch of other weird and probably disgusting stuff.

That’s why it’s a proto-gravemind, it’s not developed fully. I’m sure the Keys blob probably would have turned into one of those tentacled plant freaks if it was given the time.
