Well first of all I know this has been a theory before and is on going. I just want to put in my 2 cents.
A lot of people think he died in halo 3. I think otherwise. (i might be missing something that says he’s alive or dead, sorry if so). Well if he is the last precursor, he is supposed to be able to survive halo firings. He is said to be most machine. This would allow him to survive the halo that fires at the end of halo 3, because halo’s are supposed to destroy LIFE. He might not qualify as life. This would also explain how he can control the flood without being taken over by it.

I believe he used the word “Forerunner” as one who controls the fate of the galaxy, and the two species also bear a strong resemblance.

Actually the Forerunners may not be related to humans but they did make us their predacessor if that makes sense. They chose humanity to carry on which is why the Ark is located on Earth.

Im afraid you are misinformed then. The Precursors are a form of life and therefor are subject to the Halo array. And the gravemind is made up of flood biomass, so it is also subject to the effects of the rings.
Well either case I don’t think Gravemind is a precursor from my understanding Graveminds are formed from when the flood take over enough hosts to create a gravemind which gives them intelligence and helps coordinate them better then your average zombie.
