Did anyone see in the trailer the grappling hook allowed the player to jack a flying vehicle from quite a bit of distance?
I really hope the grappling hook is nerfed versus vehicles in the actual game and not as effective in a real multiplayer game. If so there will be little point in getting in a vehicle as you’ll be able to jack it almost immediately. The only way it’s going to be balanced is if you have giant, wide open levels. However, those typically aren’t as fun as the small to medium sized maps.
Thoughts?
To my understanding the grappling is a one time pick up item found on the map. Like halo 3 equipment.

Exactly this.
It won’t turn into a Spider-Man-esque Mirror’s Edge clone with Spartans flying everywhere,
just like H3 wasn’t a Power-Drain fest or Bubble Shields everywhere.
As other have mentioned it should be a one time pick up equipment use. However I do hope that people in flying vehicles can have a chance to counter this. Two ideas that come to mind is:
A: If you use the evade/dodge action it removes the grapple hook from your vehicle.
B: quick time (think battlefield counter front assassination) where you can counter the person grapple jacking you buy punching them in the face.
The way they’ll balance it is by making it a pick up like a power weapon. The only way I see it being broken is if it was something everyone had all the time which isn’t the case.
Gotcha, thanks guys. That’s what I was missing. I was thinking everyone would have the grappling hook the whole time and it would become part of the normal experience. That must be what the guy with the sniper picked up and used right before he grappled up high and sniped a guy in the video. That makes sense.
getting hijacked pisses me off, (love the mechanic when I’m on the other end…), but if I can get hijacked out of the air with such ease… nerf
