Grappling hook gameplay possibilities

Curious to see if the community has already thought of any creative uses of the grappling hook during multiplayer/custom games based off the little we’ve seen of it so far. Some ideas I have are like grappling onto a rocket mid air to get a massive boost across the map or using it to grab objectives like a flag or skulls.

ugh… I hadn’t even considered possibilities like that. Those sound like even more reasons I really hope the grapple hook is an equippable pickup that can be omitted from multiplayer.

I vaguely remember hearing it’s gonna follow a similar system to halo 3’s pickups which, if true, would be great in my book.

Here’s a few:
Grappling to pull a driver/gunner out of their vehicle.
Grappling an opponent while as a passenger in a vehicle.
Grappling onto a vehicle to perform a hijacking/ aerial hijacking.
Grappling a flying suicide grunt and slingshotting him back to the enemy.
Grappling an object behind an opponent and pulling it towards said opponent.
Grappling an opponent from behind and performing an assassination.
Grappling a spawned weapon right as the opponent is about to grab it.
Grappling to prevent falling off the playable area.
Grappling to get to a higher vantage point.

Badge Names to consider:
Going Fishing
Tow Hook
Tow the Line
Hook, Line, and Sinker
Thwip
Hook Shot

i think a fishing game mode would be fun the infected is high up and the survivors are in a bowl running around as the infected have to try and grabble them up to the death balls high up to catch them lol

attach to any vechicle for transport. i think hijacking should only work if you grapple the driver so that it takes some skill

I’m actually on the side (minority it sounds), that thinks the grappling hook should NOT be a pick up. It’s only unfair because 1 person is gonna be effing Spiderman. If everyone started off with Grappleshot just like Sprinting and Charging, etc in Halo 5 it would be even.

So, that being said. I agree that all the cool ideas with a grappleshot sound SO FUN. But not if only 1 guy has it, no way. And that’s the way it’s gonna be, pick ups. So because of that. I’m not sure how much I’m gonna support the grappleshot basically connecting with ANYTHING. It would be so OP.

it wont be op if you can only grapple 3 times

i can already think of a custom game for it kind of like Jungle Jim where you need to keep grappling along a path with twists/turns all sorts of obstacles whilst the infected does it best to kill you via via sniper or traps

This issue is then the map is designed for grapple and we get an H5 situation where the maps are garbage for general combat. Making it a pick up makes it a power gear piece. Its usage should be determined by map control and player knowledge. That’s what halo his, powerful abilities and weapons must be external to the player so that creativity comes from the sandbox, not player power.

I hope, since equipment will be pickup-based in multiplayer, you can choose to spawn with equipment in custom games and allow for unlimited uses (and other similar features).

I find a lot of minigame-style custom games to be really fun in Halo, and i can’t wait to see what people do with the new equipment.

Here are a couple ideas:
Spidermen - unlimited grapple and sticky grenades
The blob - unlimited drop walls infection on big/open map
Pirates 2 - elephants CTF with grapple hooks to cross over
Mad Max - vehicle VIP with grapple hijacking
Grappleshot grifball - eh, maybe not?
Grapple duckhunt - i could see it.

You get the idea.
Please no: unlimited grapple for matchmaking.
Please yes: unlimited equipment options for custom minigames.

An idea I had was that the grapple could be used to drag boxes toward you and/or your teammates to provide cover. I’m seriously gonna be disappointed if the grapple only sticks to enemies, fusion coils, map geometry, and weapons in the full game. Imagine toss/move-able man cannons! Call me cynical but I doubt 343I will be very imaginative in this regard. Their non-weapon based sandbox interactions have left a lot to be desired, IMO.
