I’ve been seeing some community feedback that grapplejack is too easy to pull off - I agree so I wanted to see what ideas were floating around to balance it.
One idea that came to mind was to enable the grappling player to be splattered depending on where they grapple and which way the vehicle is traveling. If for example you grapple the front and the vehicle is driving forward, you could get splattered. If you grapple near the front, the vehicle has a bit of room for counterplay by steering towards the grappler before they make contact to get the splatter.
Other ideas I’ve seen include requiring manual button press at the end of the grapple to hijack.
Another is to allow grapple jack only from certain attachment points - that correspond with entry points to the vehicle. Missing those would result in you finishing your graphs next to the vehicle but not in it - you’d need to find a way in.
Thoughts?
I think just adding a max grapple timer would help. I’ve seen quite a few clips where players grapple a vehicles and continuously get pulled towards it for several seconds longer than normal since the vehicle is accelerating in the opposite direction faster than the grapple can retract. Adding on a timer to this would mean that after a certain point if you don’t reach the end of your grapple, the grapple just ends.
This would help as that way fast vehicles can escape a grapple by boosting away or just accelerating to max speed for a bit. It would prevent those crazy long distance grapplejacks.
I like the specific point suggestion. I don’t know how an additional button press would make it much harder, but if you actually had to grapple the individual player your were stealing the vehicle from, then suddenly it becomes an absolute feat.
I guess you can’t see people piloting flying vehicles though. But maybe in that case an additional button press would be more interesting. Like the object isn’t to just pull yourself to the vehicle but propel yourself towards it so you can achieve a grapple.
the grapplehook has a targeting assist so you don’t have to be pinpoint accurate with it. imo this should not apply when it comes to grappling vehicles, make the grapple hitbox tighter to the vehicle’s model.

That sounds like a a pretty interesting idea, I think I like that more, I would say your just not able to grapple jack anyone who you can’t see in a vehicle which makes some logical sense I think? Most of the ones that are closed are vehicles I think most people don’t want to be grapple jacked out of anyways because its annoying and theirs not a lot of skill involved to it.

WOW I didn’t realize there was an assist here. That definitely needs to be removed for vehicles - 100%!
