The Grapple Hook is way too strong. There is no situation where it is outclassed by other equipment, thus making them useless. It is the best equipment out of battle, in boss fights, and during all side missions. All other equipment needs a serious buff or Grapple needs to be toned down. (Yes, I know its a single-player game and I have the choice to use whatever I want, but why would I use something thats inferior?)
Have you played on Legendary?
The Grappleshot is useful (e.g. pulling to enemies to hit them with the Ravager and Energy Sword, and getting away from enemies), but the other equipment is necessary in many situations.
While on lower difficulties, you can just look at the outline of invisible enemies and shoot them, on Legendary you’re surrounded by powerful and difficult to kill enemies, so you have to use the Sensor to avoid running into invisible enemies that you can’t just melee and shoot while fighting the other enemies.
I haven’t been able to get far enough to get the Drop Wall or Thruster (invisible Elites and some bosses need to be nerfed), so I don’t know how powerful they might be, but nerfing the Grappleshot would be awful.
Also, the Grappleshot needs to be fixed if anything.
The stun upgrade doesn’t seem to work most of the time.
It’s like the game was designed around the Grapple…
The open world and sandbox was clearly designed around the Grapple and to be frank, it does make it feel like an evolved Halo experience.
You wanted a weapon that you can’t reach behind cover? Grapple.
You want to close the gap to an enemy? Grapple.
You want to hijack an otherwise dangerous vehicle? Grapple.
Not to say everything is trivialized by Grapple, it doesn’t make you invincible and what not.
Besides, the other Equipment are pretty strong if upgraded fully.
Threat Sensor: I shoot both the moment I enter a room and bam, I can see all the enemies hiding behind walls. It’s almost a cheat.
Thruster: You can Thrust twice and go Invis. How is that not awesome or powerful?
Dropwall: maxed out, it can take insane amounts of punishment, and to make things better, anything you fire through it gains Electric damage. It’s really strong if used well.
I wouldn’t say all other equipment is useless. Grapple is just the most user friendly out of the box. Once the others are leveled up, they become quite powerful, especially on higher difficulties.
Except drop wall. I’ve not found a good use for that yet other than niche survival techniques.
Max it and don’t use it for survival, use it for damage.
It adds shock after it’s maxed and I throw one down before letting loose on those pesky shielded Banish Officers. Easy kills.
I wish we got the repulsor in campaign instead of the drop wall to be honest. I fully upgraded the drop wall but the cooldown is still way too long for me to think its worth using.
I wish we had gotten that and other equipment.
They could have just let us swap active equipment.
Fully upgraded drop wall with electric damage added to any weapon shot through is beast also great for creating cover you so you can focus enemys that are flanking and it can block a elites sword charge if dropped at the right time.
Totally under rated piece of equipment.
The Dash is the only one I really don’t care for personally. The rest definitely have their uses though.
oh its op alright, but the other equips are extremely useful. dash is my go to for bosses, shield giving you extra zappy damage is friggin insane, and the locator beacon is pretty much a must have for every boss after you find it and most of the HVTs. the dash is probably my favorite in combat tool. dodging in and out of combat has never been better with the invis.
stun only works once on an enemy in a given period of time, which took me forever to realize. the bosses on legendary are fine though. most of the time I was getting swamped I just kinda clicked with the rhythm of ability usage. and the invis elites are so loud you can hear them a mile away if you memorize what they sound like.
repulsor in campaign would have been sick. I thought the drop wall was kinda useless at first too but it grew on me pretty fast in the end. I just wish we had more than the 4 abilities in general. overshield and active camo with long cooldowns included. I play M+K so I wouldnt be too affected by just adding more ability keys, but I imagine more than 4 could be challenging for controller so I get why they didnt.
Even the first time I use the stun, it doesn’t always stun them.
The invisible Elite boss is overpowered and only gets affected by the stun once in a while.
It really needs to be fixed, because I don’t think there’s any way of knowing that your stun ability is on cooldown.
I don’t understand why they didn’t include some form of active camo and the overshield.
Also, for gamepads, they could have just let you choose which 4 abilities you want equipped.
In the campaign, it should have been replaced with things like faster sprint, a double-jump, and other passive mobilities upgrades.
Grappleshot is pretty great between picking up fusion coils or getting distance, and fully upgraded does make it a beast, but on Legendary the Drop Wall became very useful and the Cloak Thrusters were very good at ducking out of sight and being able to recover/strike at a more advantageous position. The Jega boss fight was actually all about using the Thrusters to evade his slashes while pumping him full of buckshot with the Bulldog for me.
But in the main story missions that involved being indoors a lot with a bunch of mobs, the Drop Wall was my survival tool. It infusing whatever projectiles you fired through it with Shock capabilities really helped out in clearing out mobs - particularly in the Harbinger fight when I wanted to immediately kill the groups of Elites/Skimmers that would come rushing out the doors so that I was able to deal with that Chieftain.
Yeah pleas don’t touch Grapple that saved my life on so many occasions especially during Boss fights as well, at least buff the others so they have more uses to them
I think the big problem is the difficulty in chaining abilities. You have to do some trigonometry big brain stuff to switch between the abilities. They’re all useful but gs is the best so it’s easier just to stick with that. If it were easier to cycle through the abilities I’d use drop wall and the sensor all the time.
Depends on the difficulty.
A fully upgraded Drop Wall is great against…flying enemies, and enemies in general, as shooting through it causes your weapon to gain shock damage. The surface area covered by the fully upgraded Drop Wall is massive too – far bigger than in Multiplayer. It saved my life on Legendary and Heroic a few times.
Thruster isn’t worth it when you have the Grapple. There’s very few situations you’d find yourself unable to just grapple away instead. I never found the invisibility you can get useful.
Threat Sensor is useful on Heroic, and definitely on Legendary. You can upgrade to get two of them, and at max level, they reveal the health of enemies inside the range – which is also dramatically increased from Multiplayer. The health reveal is helpful to prioritise enemies, see which Hunter is weaker, or, most importantly, let you see invisible enemies.
It largely depends on the Difficulty you play the Campaign on.
Drop wall, sensor and grapple is all i used on my laso playthrough, i only used the wall to deal with the sentinels and sensor when fighting invisible bosses.
Other than that i probably used grapple more than my weapons😁
it’s overpowered? Have you even used it? You can barely reach anything with it
