Grapple Hook is too much of a game changer in campaign

From the looks of it being used, its about a 4-5 second cooldown with a high boost at max launch. I can’t see myself hooking trees, ground, walls every few seconds as my new mobility. Never will I have to walk more than 5 steps again.

And considering how easy it is to grapple vehicles, I doubt we can see any large structure or vehicle scaling as a challenge anymore. This includes returns of Scarabs or linear pathways. You just lost 50% of the difficulty with the grapple hook and it needs to be balanced out in a sort of way in campaign.

There will be times where the grapple hook probably isn’t the best tool for the job, so I wouldn’t think it will make the campaign that trivial, we will just have to wait and see I guess.

How do you know without playing it first? Assumptions.

It is going to be a big map, I think the grapple will fit well, plus its too much fun!

Since the trailer was mostly likely played on easy, perhaps legendary limits your equipment even more?

I agree, the grapple hook is a gamechanger. I heard a lot of whinging about sprint, but this takes it to a new level. I have watched clips on Youtube, where one player parks a warthog, throws a grenade under it and as it blows he grapples the warthog, which then takes him almost across the map. I also watched a clip where two players were having a battle in wasps. One player gets close, dismounts his wasp and grapples the other wasp and hijacks it. I have also watched players timimg grapples. One grapples a structure, then the second grapples the first player and it’s like a slingshot.

It definitely changes Halo’s gameplay massively. I would prefer it with limited uses. Both Thrusters and Grapple seem to be core mechanics and seem pretty extreme at max upgrade. Something I disliked a lot about Halo 5 was exactly this, a bunch of superpowers in your core mechanics, I’m not glad this game is doing that too. I was hoping to go back to either armour abilities, limited equipment, or nothing at all again.

You say the difficulty is going to be gone, but you assume you’ll be able to Spider-Man around without Jackal snipers lighting you up. You assume you’ll be close enough to a Scarab or be able to take on the occupants inside. Maybe let’s see how the game plays first before assuming all is lost.

The hook in DOOM Eternal was not a negative change compared to DOOM (2016), I do not think we should worry in that regard with the Halo Infinite campaign.

One of the worst ways a game can handle skill trees is to just make it so its a linear path and by the end the player is an unstoppable monster, instead its almost always preferable if they make it ‘build’ focused where although you can optimize your spartan for a certain playstyle it has limitations.

Grapplehook by itself really isn’t anything too ridiculous, but if you take a look at some of the upgrades you start to see just how easy the overall experience will be.

It would largely depend on how crowded the structure is. The way I see it is like the jetpack in Halo: Reach and Halo 4: if you use it on Legendary, you’re just painting a huge target on your back.

I hope that there is some difficulty in using the grapplehook on Legendary, but hopefully not halo 2 Jackal sniper difficult.

I have actually. We all had. Technical preview. It all let us use the hook. And we know killing AI is easier than players. Unless they plan to put invisible walls everywhere (which is lame), then you can pretty much hop over everything, hijack everything, kill everything.

Grapple makes the game too easy for you? don’t use it all the time. porblem solved.

believe it or not, most people play games for fun, and grapple hooks are fun.

I can see LASO taking away all your abilities. And taking away something this big in a game that was designed around it is going to make this rival or surpass H2’s LASO.

Infinite isnt an rpg. its not about player choice, its about player progression and only progression.

Just too soon to judge. I’m sure they’ll work out some updates here and there fixing some things but with the apparent scale of the campaign, it’ll probably save us a lot of time getting around.

I think you forget that the Grappleshot only has a certain number of charges. You’re not going to go all Spiderman when you only have 3 shots. Not to mention you lose the Grappleshot if you pick up other equipment.

It looks like the grappleshot is infinite in campaign and recharges also didn’t the demo show the GS and DW being picked up simultaneously.

I think it is worth noting that the equipment is optional so design must accommodate not having it at all and I’m sure levels will be featured where the GS isn’t available.

The demo from two years ago did. But if you look at the demo from this year the grappleshot had charges.
