Graphics versus Gameplay in multiplayer

I’ve been playing Halo since the first one came out on Xbox. I’ve been a big fan of the series. Halo 2 is my favorite because of its multiplayer design and the fantastic map layouts. I also had a lot of fun playing Halo 3 online.

One thing that really irked me about Halo 4 was the graphics. Although it looks nice, I feel like the graphics get in the way of basic information, such as knowing how a grenade would bounce off an object, or whether or not I can jump on something. Halo 1, 2 and 3 used a lot of basic geometric shapes and clean surfaces in their multiplayer maps. When every texture is dirty, and all shapes have a million polygons, it makes for a fancy looking game - but it gets in the way of identifying your opponents and accurate grenade throws. That’s the main reason why I prefer the old games when it comes to multiplayer. They had clearer graphics.

Does anyone else feel this way, or am I just getting old?

I am on the fence on this. I prefer my games to have that “next-gen” look, as that is why I keep buying new systems as they come out.

However, in multiplayer games, I will take smooth frame rate and great hit detection over super-awesome graphics any day. If the graphics negatively affect the experience as a whole, that doesn’t work for me.

My two cents… Cheers!

I agree with you. the old graphics are way better

I find with Halo it’s the gameplay over the graphics I can still go back to CE and have an absolute blast, even though the game looks far from next-gen it’s still amazing
