Graphics Card for Infinite?

Is there any point worrying about Graphics Card compatibility for Infinite this far in advance? I may be upgrading my gaming rig fairly soon and don’t want to make a mistake with it which would affect my ability to play Infinite on PC.

Knowing that the XBox One X uses AMD architecture I’m thinking of switching allegiance to AMD from my usual go-to NVIDIA on the basis that if there are going to be any compatibility issues it’s less likely to be with AMD hardware. On the other hand, though, am I worrying over nothing? My rig’s good enough and I’ll be buying a card to be sure that minimum requirements won’t be an issue.

I know some studios officially endorse one hardware or another, but given 343 has mostly been XBox focussed I’ve not seen anything in that regard for either H5: Forge, HW2, HW;DE or the Spartan Assault/Strike games.

I think you’ll be good regardless of if you’re running an NVIDIA or AMD card. The architecture shouldn’t make much of a difference.

What resolution and refresh rate you looking to game at? And what GPU you rocking right now?

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970M with 3GB GDDR5 is the current

Will be upgrading monitor as well so tbc really, but if I can get to the 4k level I will be happy

I doubt you’ll get anything 4k with that. I’m on a 980ti 6GB and I don’t think I can run 4k at a steady FPS. For PC gaming I’d recommend keeping it at 2K for most applications.

IMO 4K gaming just isn’t there yet, unless its games like RDR2 were competitive multiplayer isn’t a huge aspect.

The best Graphic card opinion for me is the NVIDIA 2080 TI

Aye, that’s why I’m asking because I need an upgrade.

Yeah 4K is pretty demanding. Depending on if you play more competitive shooters or more RTS and single-player games frame rate may not be a big deal. Also, once we hear more about MCC and Infinite, we’ll know if frame rates will be uncapped. I’d assume they will be in Infinite, and they’re shooting for uncapped in MCC as well.

Speaking from my experience, I game at 1440p, 144 Hz and I really enjoy it. I play a mix of competitive shooters and single-player games. GPU is a GTX 1080 Ti. I don’t get 144 FPS in all games, but if I bump a setting or two to medium I’m usually around 100 FPS. If you have a way to test out a 1440p 144 Hz monitor, do it! It is buttery smooth.

Aye that’s the trade-off. Until now been way more RTS than shooters

At this point it’s almost impossible to know for sure, but if they’re planning an Xbox One release, then you probably don’t need the latest and greatest. I figure a 10-series or Vega would be sufficient. It all depends on resolution though, 4K is a lot more demanding than 1080p.

I’d just wait until Infinite releases to see what is requires. 2 years ago I upgraded my system with an i7-7700K (from FX-6300) and 16 GB RAM (from 8) but hadn’t gotten a new graphics card because I have a 970 as well and it still plays all the recent titles rather well and I upgraded mostly because I’m a huge old school nerd and needed a CPU heavy system to run the latest emulators.
With no competition from AMD Nvidia just made outrageous prices for their RTX series so I’ll wait and see how the prices drop when AMD releases something new or go AMD altogether (I’m a big Nvidia fan though).
I’m not a guy who needs 144 FPS, 4K resolution and Ultra graphics, I just want to have fun in a game. If I ever come across a game again that I really want to play (those are getting rare now though) and my 970 can’t run it even on the lowest settings I’ll upgrade to something newer like I always did, but not something that totally breaks my wallet like the RTX cards, probably will go with an used GTX 1080 or something that should have better prices by then.

I’d also suggest it’s too early to worry about PC Specs, and like others, that since it’s going to be on OG XBox One, any graphics card more powerful should be fine (AMD R7 260X or NVidia 650 Ti Boost or above).

I wouldn’t worry about whether it was AMD or NVidia either, just get the card that offers decent power with a bit to spare for future proofing and yet fits your budget.

AMD’s new Navi cards will be revealed soon and seem to be aiming for the budget and midrange price bracket. Manwhile the new NVidia GTX 1660 6GB card offer more power than their GTX 1060 (most popular card on Steam), with high framerate 1080p and very good 1440p results, and yet now starts much cheaper for the 6GB version, from as little as $219. If your budget can afford that, you’d surely easily be ready for any game for some years to come.

But if Infinite is your top priority, another thought is to carry on saving your money for another year or so (?) until it comes out and we know the Specs, AMD and NVidia will both have unveiled their next gen cards, and that way you’d have a better idea what upgrades to buy, and have saved extra towards it and get more powerful upgrades (maybe even at cut-price in some sales too)!

Thanks for the tips and advice. Comforting to be reassured!

They have categorically confirmed XBox One release. Given that that will mean heterogeneous architectures just on XBox One (let along PCs) there will surely be a lot of settings variance possible though

If they’re planning on the game to look as good as the engine trailer I’d imagine it’s gonna be pretty demanding if you’re wanting to play on higher settings.

There in one my man. I am sooooo hyped

I think on release it will`t be optimized but in the future everything will be corrected

If you want do 4k you pretty much have to go with a 2080ti and for 2k 2080 or 2070 and I believe 1660ti. Otherwise for 1080p you should be fine with an rx590, gtx1660 or anything more powerful and a good cpu to help push frames.

Cheers. Time to start saving methinks

Do not get a 2080Ti or any 20 series card. They’re way overpriced.

I’ve got 32gb 3200mhz ram
Ryzen 2700x which I’ll upgrade to 3850x
GTX1080Ti(get this much better value than 20 series and not much less powerful) which I’ll upgrade to 3080Ti

Also, go for 1440p Ultra 144fps+ (much more worth it than 4K)

Tell them not to overprice the 30 series or I’m switching to AMD.
