I got the cook book and while I will not be ready to cook anything just yet, I am excited though and checked out most of the recipes, and here are my thoughts.
first off, after the index and introductions, it does give a handy list of ingredients that not a lot would have heard of, like Amchur Powder and Za’atar. which is good since some recipes will require those items.
Then we get the first part, World Cuisine, a fictional restaurant from Reach, that managed to get locations on Earth. nothing to crazy, it has a taco, sushi, and salmon burger recipe, makes sense since it is just a restaurant.
Next, UNSC High Fleet Dining. a lot of this is going to be the easy-to-make stuff, since it is suppose to be things you would get on a UNSC ship. So hotdogs, a meatloaf dinner, and a turkey leg. but it also gets us our first drinks you can make, like Hot Chocolate and peace iced tea, and a milkshake…
Next up, Havadi Goodwan, a cafe in the Halo world. this gets you your pastry, coffee and tea, and once again, easy to make, and while I hate the taste of coffee myself, the spiced coffee may be good if I have guests or family.
Now Fronks, a seafood restaurant in Old Mombasa. so this is the place if you love fish, even comes with a fish taco and lobster-loaded baked potato. all the recipes are rated as medium difficulty, except the Fsh Taco which is rated at easy. plus, a chocolate cream pie recipe!
Now we get Vending Machines. Yes there are recipes to make the stuff in the vending machines. and this is were the fun names come in, like Buffagoat Buttocks, Moa Wings, and The Purple Concotion, this also comes with 3 soda recipes where you make the syrup and add it to Club Soda when you want it, my fave name is Gauss Orange Soda.
Now Have S’moa, all recipes made from Moa, but not all are bird related., and thankfully it explained that they didn’t go extint as they are on other planets, but in much smaller numbers now. This contains a Moa Caeser Salad (uses steak), Moa Nuggets, and the only Legendary Recipe… the Full-Stack Ground Pounder, it has 2 pages of instruction on how to make it…
Enzo’s Churrascaria, judging by the recipes is a more all yu can eat buffet style one, where the recipes were all pre made and you just grab, The one recipe that caught my eyewas the Halo-Halo desert, and yes the book jokes about how it was not named after the giant rings, but other recipes include Garlic Stir-fry, and Pineapple Fried Rice.
Now we go to Maeyama’s Noodle Bar, and yes as you can tell, it is mainly Noodle dishes, with things like Pho bo and Pasta Alla Norma
Thai Game is based on Thai food (duh) and contains Chicken Satay, Grilled Mega-Prawns, and Space Pad Thai.
we get our next Cafe Kuku’s Cafe and this, gets you your sandwiches, like the Bauru sabndwhich, a Sabich, and Pan Bagnat.
Jim Dandy is one of those airport restaurant-style places, so now we get into the breakfast stuff, like French Toast, Cachhapas, and Cafe Con Leche, another coffee recipe in the book.
and Now, we end with Full Moon, a restaurant made upon ships that act more like cruises… so this has more drinks and only 1 food recipe. and yes 4 of the 5 drinks in this part are alcoholic with mainly Liqueur drinks
But yeah from what I have seen, it is not too bad, many of the recipes looks good and easy, plus being able to make certain drinks is a great bonus for me. Disappointed we did not get more creative names, but you get what you can.
