First time I’ve ever stopped playing a Halo game before a new one came out.
This is not a “bash 343” post. I think you guys did a great job with Campaign and I was really impressed! Great music, great game play, cool new villains, and a great story. It was awesome to play as the Chief again, and Spartan Ops was a great way to extend the campaign. Forward unto Dawn was a fun movie, and I got chills when Chief appeared for the first time!
I’m not narcissistic enough to think you really care I stopped playing Halo 4, or naive enough to think 343 will respond to this. I just hope that it might actually be viewed as constructive criticism.
Join In Progress sounded so brilliant to me when I first heard about it, but I’ve played a number of Big Teams where I end up being the only one left, and no one ever joins! Isn’t that when this amazing new feature should help me?
I get sucked into JIP games so often that it’s rare I actually get to vote for a map. I love Rumble Pit, but it’s no fun to join a game where someone has such a lead it’s almost impossible to catch up and win. JIP was a great idea, but it needs to be reworked so that it actually helps instead of hurts.
DLC playlists not guaranteed. I know DLC maps show up when everyone has them, but that’s extremely rare when you’re playing Big Team with 16 people. I can’t remember the last time I played Perdition and I LOVE that Map! I’ve always bought all Halo DLC, but for the first time ever I actually had to really think whether or not to get the Champions pack. I will get Halo 5 when it comes out, but I won’t get a special edition, and I’ll think hard before getting any DLC.
Interaction with the community. 343 people post on NeoGAF, but I’ve never seen any of them talk to anyone on here. I realize you can’t answer every post on here, or get too involved in discussions here because you need to spend time actually making Halo 5 (and posting on NeoGAF).
Occasionally replying to a random post, even 1 out of every 1000, would go a long way though!
JIP is mostly disabled once the time goes past half, due to complaints of joining in at the end of a game. If you became the lone player earlier than that… just bad luck I guess.
I do hope they have search filters and options regarding JIP in the future.
Infinity Slayer is Majestic Required. For now, at least.
I do agree there should be better DLC support, though.
bs angel has streaks of replies often, and 343i have already designated areas that they will actively view. Doesn’t mean they’ll post, but its an area they consider. MM Support, Halo Waypoint, and War Games sections.
To be honest, the community at times could make posting here problematic for developers.
Besides, anything posted on twitter or neogaf worth looking at is on waypoint within the hour.
Very good post fellow spartan. It all makes sense and you didn’t one bit bash at 343. I feel you 100% on the maps/dlc. I still try to play when i want to play something quick to kill time, but I would say War games is the weakest point in halo 4 and for me its because 7 out of 10 matches lag lag lag. I don’t blame you dude.

Thank You!
Lag is a major frustration for me too. I didn’t mention it as Xbox One is supposed to have dedicated servers by the time Halo 5 comes out, so hopefully it won’t be an issue.
Sorry to see you go. I’m heading in this direction myself (trending toward stopping prior to the next Halo). This never happened before, but the multiplayer just isn’t keeping my attention like prior games. I’m not taking the disc out of the tray just yet, but I have noticed my enjoyment hitting a wall much sooner than I would have expected.
Still, the semi-weekly playlists have given me a second wind (KOTH is good fun) and I hope they will carry me through to at least the point where I can see what direction Halo 5 is going in.
I agree with you 100%, especially the 3rd point of the interaction with the community. The whole reason I ever joined waypoint, was so that I could interact with the community, give suggestions to 343i and maybe if I’m lucky, interact with someone with 343i. I joined here so that my voice is heard, but how can it when there all somewhere else. It really hits me hard on the inside. Its really hard for me to accept that fact.
Although, no bad how hard the times are, and how bad the developers and the community is, I will never leave Halo, I will stay to the end.

That describes how I feel pretty well, and then add to that the JIP and Lag, and DLC issues and I just got so frustrated it wasn’t fun for me anymore.

That’s exactly how I feel as well. Even though it was sparse, Bungie interacted with people on their forums. They didn’t always interact with discussions/debates, or make a consistent appearance, but they popped in just often enough to let you know they were reading, and you were being heard.
That’s all I want from 343. I know they don’t have the time to show up regularly on the boards, but those special appearances once in awhile would really go a long way.

Same here.
While I may take very long breaks, I’ll always come back eventually.
I hated Reach.
I stopped playing for almost an entire year and played nothing but MW3.
But even after the monstrosity that is Reach, I found a reason to return.
In a little under two months, I’ll retire Halo 4 and pickup CoD Ghosts.
Though I’ll pay weekly or bi-monthly visits to Halo 4, I’ll be spending the majority of my time playing CoD Ghosts.
I’ll also make sure to post on Waypoint.
That’s for certain.
