good player does not mean good teammate

Recently I was in a game of snipers and got put on a team with two really good players, a champion and and onyx. first off, I don’t really care what rank you are or if you are the best player in the world, but I saw this and am like “oh, you must be really good at this, cool”. turned out not to be cool, at all. I am fairly decent at snipers and acknowledge that I’m not the best and that most people can easily beat me. But I’m not terrible. And like most normal players, I have my good games and my bad games. I was having one of those bad games, and these two players made it their main priority to make it worse and shove it down my throat. constantly degrading me via game chat started normal with simple insults that at this point I’ve gotten used to, like " your trash", “you suck”, “you should leave”, “leave now you ------”, “never play halo again”, then started to escalate drastically. suddenly there were insults that I could no longer brush off and started to distract me from the game, I’m not going to repeat them as I don’t want this to get censored by the moderators. these are champion and onyx players, and they’re acting like a couple of bratty children. could you imagine if the HCS players acted like that, Im not sure if I’d be amused or disturbed. I do respect that they are really good at the game, but I have no respect for the kind of person that acts like this. since when did video gaming communities become so toxic?

Since video gaming communities have been a thing. In any type of community (particularly when it gets competitive), gaming or otherwise, there’s bound to be elitist -Yoink- who think they’re so much better than everyone else because they did X thing better than someone. It’s unfortunate but it’s just a result of people being people.

“On the top,its cold”
This quote means that, the higher you get up in a competive sport, the unfriendlier the people get.
Not all of course.
I would recommend you to report those players.

yeah, I’ve actually been in games with people that could wipe the floor with these two, but were still the nicest people ever, of all time

Did you play with them before? Just wondering how you knew their rank before the game started. I tried finding the game, but I didn’t really see anything. Were they champion and onyx in Snipers or in different playlists? Might partly explain why the were getting frustrated with you if you were in a game with high ranking players since they wouldn’t want to lose their rank.

I can see where they’re coming from, but that does seem excessively rude.

have not been in a game with them before, they started yelling their ranks over the mic mid game trying to get me to leave, plus I went back into my game history to find their true ranks (I didn’t believe them at first), turns out they actually are a champion and onyx. and yes, it for the snipers playlist, but if they really didn’t want to play with lower skilled players then they could have left or they could have narrowed the game search by going by skill instead of an open search.

I agree they should play as a party if they don’t want to risk lower skilled players.

though, I do find it funny that they used “I’ve been playing this since the first halo came out” as a reason for them being better, as if that makes any difference, I’ve been playing since halo 3 came out, big whoop, that doesn’t make me superior to anyone

Block and report, that’s all you can do.Fps usually have the worst people when it comes to messages you receive. Now I’m not a saint,if I play halo wars 2 I will tell someone to go practice or play the campaign if they do bad,but I never take it to a level where I make a person feel like they’re terrible at life for being bad at a video game

I generally don’t block or report players as I’ve become accustomed to just mentally blocking them out or just not caring. but this was one of the rare occurrences where I did block and report the players

Social media and video game messages/comments generally show the decay of western society and how truly evil people can be.I still remember when I got a death threat playing halo 3

This was a grown man who threatened me,I wouldn’t have taken it seriously or been as bothered if it was 4 year old

oh, yikes, yeah people can be terrible. I mean, we’re adults, why do some of us act like this then?

I like to think these kinds of people are in the minority and most gamers (even at the top) are nice people too. But if they’re still bothering you, you can always not play with a mic and make good use of the mute option. That’s what I do, and like 99% of my games are fun and safe.

Btw, I was playing the Halo 3 playlist on Halo 5 a while ago and someone told me to get off and not come back until I’m better.
(o_O )

The funny thing is he worded his message kind of weird so I didn’t even know what he was talking about until after the match ended. Oh well. I highly doubt I’ll ever bump into him again.

I have to admit that gaming brings out a side of me that I’m not particularly proud of… not the trash talker so much as the quitter with chipped shoulder. But if I had found myself in your shoes, as an example, I’m pretty sure that I would have made it my mission in life to drop their shields and make them easy targets, and I would have got my mic out just so they could hear some raw language concerning their ranks and their attitudes. That’s not what IRL me would do, but it’s definitely what Halo me does.

That’s why I don’t use a mic anymore

I love it when they can’t word their hate correctly, hard to take them Seriously

video games (especially battlefront II) bring out my worst too, but I never would do this kind of thing to another player.

but I can’t help but feel some satisfaction that our team lost because of me.

I’ve experienced some -Yoink- in sports games and in hw1 and 2,but I swear the majority of the hate was while playing halo 2 and 3 and whatever cod game is popular at the time
