I understand some people like being competitive, but I miss the social from Halo 3. 343 where is action sack, social skirmish, and social big team? These were great, varied playlists that enabled some cool new things to be introduced into matchmaking. In Halo 4 and in other games as well I feel as though everyone is pushing the “competitive” envelope too far. At the end of the day it is a game and supposed to be fun, and Halo used to be the best game for accomplishing this! I want a fleshed out custom game system so I can make Fat Kid and Ice Cream Man, but I cannot do that anymore because of Flood. Am I the only who misses these things that made Halo 3 boatloads of fun?
I agree. I liked to play a few social matches before I jump into ranked.
I can’t really do that here. it’s bascially go in hardcore game 1 and all night long and try to avoid carpal tunnel in the process lol
Lol…
All of Halo 4 is social you do realize that correct? The only thing that separated competitive playlists from social playlists in Halo 3 was a ranking system and the ability to play with guests logged in. In a ranked Halo 3 playlist you couldn’t play with a guest logged in and with every game you played you got ranked based off weather you won or lost, in Halo 4 there is no ranking system and I believe you can play with guests logged in, also like Halo 3 social playlists you can stay in the lobby after the game and play the same people over again.
I find it funny someone is complaining that Halo 4 is “too competitive” when it’s by far the most casual Halo ever made. Oh and “fun” is an opinionated word, what’s fun to some might not be fun to others, for me competition is fun. So don’t be so quick to call competition un-fun.

you miss the point about whats being talked about here entirely.
No one is saying goodbye to ranked. We want a ranked and social playlist structure. The system we have now may be more ‘casual’ but with tight trueskill and join in progress matches it creates a lot of annoying matches. Going agianst hardcore players match after match with join in progress in play is anything but fun or competitive.

Well said good sir.
343 will implement casual playlists later. Right now, they want to introduce CORE playlists. More specific and unique playlists will be added after most people know what the fundamental playlists are.

What you’re saying doesn’t make any sense… RIGHT NOW, there is no ranking system, therefore every game you match up against “hardcore” players, it’s all by chance. Either you’re very inexperienced with Halo and these “Hardcore” players are in actuality “noobs” themselves or you’re just very unlucky.
Oh and join in progress is hated by the competitive community, it’s one of the most casual things ever added to Halo. What I’m saying is, Halo right now is pretty noob friendly, even if they add a social and ranked playlist it sounds like you’re still going to have some troubles winning.

You know nothing about my skill level at all and thats not what we are discussing here.
There is hidden trueskill in the playlists we currently have that is set like halo 3’s ranked playlists were. You just can’t see the skill levels of each player. It is in no way ‘random’ like reach’s was at all. The more matches you play the more it will become apparent to you.
Amen.
“social big team” ???
The current BTB playlist IS social big tean. Halo 4 is all social atm until a 1-50 ranking system is implemented.

Read what Op has posted to others in the thread, the game clearly has a working hidden trueskill system that applies for all matches.
I do agree with OP about ranked and social, social should be social where we can mess around and not be a tryhard every game.

I want social because it is what made H3 so fun in multiplayer. Yes all of the playlists are “social” now, but it’s not very social when you are put against an enemy party of 8 on Valhalla who spawn camp. By all means the game should be competitive, but let those guys be ranked in a different playlists. I am much better than all of my friends so they tend to get slaughtered and not have fun. In social, not all of those competitive kids are present and the playlists/games and matches tend to be more fun. My proposal is this, for ranked give you the visible rank and do a halo 2 or 3 1-50 system with no JIP, etc. For social JIP, no rank, much looser skill search. Also in general I think they should implement a party search system to keep the matches more fair. Let the lone wolves and small parties be together because there is less communication and then let the clan battles commence! Its not fair for small parties and line players to face off against hand holding teams. Let that stay in GB and such!
