I bought $20 of gold packs just now and I got an uncommon stinger helmet in one… is that supposed to happen?

If you have uncommon slots available it will pull it from a gold pack. Should have made sure all your uncommon and rares were unlocked before you went on a spending spree.

Buy silver until you get 3k points back. Don’t open the rest of your good packs until you completed silver and you will get better loot.
